Old wives tales. The arp rod bolts in all modern Eagle rods are 3/8 bolts. Much stronger than the stock replacement arp's for stock rods, and loads stronger than the stock toyota bolts.

I guess they have different rods. I have eagles and they are a "H" beam type with ARP studs. They came with my stroker kit and they are SB Chevy's, don't know if that makes a difference. I couldn't say you can get the stock size in the "H" beams. They looked pretty stout to me, and they are lighter than the stock ones.

FWIW, I helped work on a 542 BBC that had a Eagle rotating assembly, and J&E pistons. On motor it made 1000hp, and had a Fulton dual stage nitrous kit on top of that, so in all the motor was making around 1600hp. Where I'm going with this...every time the motor came back to us, it had melted a piston, so that's is what we'd replace, still to this day, to my knowledge the bottom end on it is still intact. I guess I could add in, if it makes a difference in anyones opinion, that this was an 1/8th mile car, a 5.20 1/8th mile car.

Personally I wouldn't ever hesitate to run any of their stuff.

How odd... I have a set of stock rods out, and was talking to a friend about polishing and balancing. He commented on how similar they are in dimensions to SBC rods, and thought maybe I could interchange them if I could find the right ones. Seems stock(Toyota) are pretty close to 6", just have to see if the ends are the same, or maybe get SBC pistons that fit in the 7m... Still have some research to do.

Not sure if the length is the same. another thing to consider is the dia of the journal, wrist pin.

the reason eagle rods are looked down on is because they're not as good as many of the others on the market...

I wouldn't hesitate to use them myself, but it's come down from the MKIV crowd and saying they they're weak and they fail at the bolts...

 No offense, but I haven't met many MKIV owners that I would trust to work on my '88 Accord, much less trust them with internal engine work ;)

i think it was chris bell (flubyux2?) on SF and here that made an informative post about them. if i recall correctly, he said that they have to be shotpeened before use, and after that, they're plenty strong.

i'm just puking this out from memory, so please don't quote me on it, but i'm almost certain that's what i read.

Eagles are shotpeened from the box.

As for Eagle's quality, the strength has never been in question for me - only the tolerances of machining.
