well just qestion

the stock brakeing is pretty good i find never really had prob i can't see my self going any thign bigger then stock rotor

but then agian i drop just about 600 pounds out of my car

so what i am asking is did you need your big brakes or just cause it was stock and it had to go type of thing

Try driving a non power steering car with a 10" steering wheel and then agian with a 17" steering wheel.

With big brake rotors it takes less to stop the car and with less braking theres less wear and tear and heat on the rotors and pads.

it i tracked the car, road raced alot i would up grade deffinatlly. but for everyday things and the hitting the track on the weekend, i'm gonna go powerslot or brembro, pads and SS lines[might get new calipers too---had one lock and then just start working fine  ]

now my '87 RX-7turboII[or even the '86 luxury]....that was a horse of a different coloure!!! all together! i ran the piss out of those brakes on a reg. basis slide every turn on this wicked road on the way to work....it's 35mph takes about 10-12mins to drive maybe about a mile and a half long maybe two prolly about two dozen turns at 90* or better.....fade does not even describe that

anyway back on topic ;)

not sure on the mkiii as i never beat any of my mkiii's that hard but the mkii wit hte 7m, the brakes get so hot the pads literally ate the rotors, which wasnt cool at all. anyhow, i got a power booster and aluminum master cylinder from a 92 turbo and then installed a summit linelock, wilwood 2psi residual valves, ss braided brake lines and a front bbk with q compound pads. rears are still stock rotors, pads and calipers for now. oon ill get the bbk for the rear as well now that i know my drag wheels will clear it. so far this setup has made a HUGE improvement. i can stop faster now with the brakes alone then i could before hard on the brakes and downshifting. needles to say if i need to i can make the car stop on a dime. first day driving it i actually locked he front wheels up a couple times cause of all the addd clamping force. lol. heres a pic.

I too think the stock brakes are pretty darn good even after repeated stops from high speeds. I guess a few folks who have had brake fade may have had cheap pads and not the stock Toyota pads. I to think with all the talk about the Most HP and knowing larger brake rotors robs you of some of that at the rear wheels I think's like a previous poster said, bragging rights. I don't race mine on the track and would have to drop a ton of money in it to be able to safely run on a track here in so cal such as willow springs.

when i ran endless na-y pads i could stop repeatedly from 180-200kph to 0(not 10 times in a row but more like 5 times) and get a headspin, headbutt the windscreen if i didnt have my seatbelt and brace myself against the steeringwheel. Now im trying the ebc greenstuff but havnt done too much highspeed braking.(compared to the endless)
Still a upgrade to the braking package wont hurt, esp as these are heavy tanks

my buddy has the Brembo 14" upgrade w/ 6 piston calipers on his 97 Single turbo, and man that thing could haul itself down in no time from 150+mph

to him its his favorite upgrade on his car

If you think the stock brakes are good, you aren't going fast enough. I've set stock (upgraded pad/rotor) brakes on fire in just a few hard decels.

EBC Greens are great pads but wear quickly and dust much more than advertised, a lot more. EBC's were very resistant to fade and they don't take long to warm-up for maximum bite. I've compared their stopping power with the premium Autozone Duralast "Gold" pads, and they seem to be on par as far as stopping power goes and they hardly dust like the EBC's. Although I haven't tried repeated hard braking to test their fade resistance, whereas EBC's were very fade resistant.

the greenstuff are a lot less dusty than the endless ive found out. After washing the rim i just touch the brake pedal (while the cars not even moving) and theres dust lol.not quite but you get the point.Ive got no problem with the brake dust.I rather stop quickly than have shiny rims.

because I just LOVE how my AP Racing big brakes with metal pads screech like a BITCH when slowing to a stop around town, it just screams "check me out, you think my brakes are f'd when they actaully cost over 3k..." :icon_mad:

They do stop like a mo-fo though when I get on 'em

hats why i went wit hthe q compound pads from wilwood. they are quite, and work great. havent noticed any fade but hadnt gotten a chance to fully beat them to death yet. also seems to very minimal dusting.

Any time you double the HP of a vehicle the first thing you need is brakes. Lots of people that upgrade the motor still dont push the envelope on the brakes. Then there are lots more that do very minimal HP upgrades and drive the hell out of the car and run out of brakes in no time.

First time you have a big scare, you will change your tune.

I thought the stock brakes weren't bad...alittle soft, and had some play in the pedal but not bad. That thought changed the other night when I ended up in the bumper of my friend with brand new brakes. SS brake lines are a must in my near future, These cars are just too heavy.
