Why do I need a after market B.O.V?

A guy at work was telling me that I need a after market B.O.V, he seems to know something about turbos, is this guy full of crap or does know what he's talking about?? I'm just a newber.

Here's my mods: 550 and Lexus mod, Walbro, Areromotive regulator, 3 inch exhaust, boost controller, ( no more than 16 or 18 P.S.I ) 57 trim on the ct/26, Spearco innercooler, and Greddy Ultimate, stock air box:icon_razz

and Rockfordfosgate. ("Gee" Doesn't seem to go any faster):3d_frown:

You don't "need" an aftermarket as much as you need one that won't leak and wont cause compressor surge, which is what it's for..

Yeah I didn't think so...

You don't neeed one, you have a stock BPV (bypass valve). As long as its functioning correctly, you're fine for now. A good BOV setup my prevent compressor surge though if your BPV can't flow enough for the 57 trim.

Thank you!!, now how do I know if the B.P.V is working, it doesn't seem to have a vaccum leak.

As long as you don't get compressor surge when you let off the throttle - which would sound like a fluttering noise from under the hood - you're fine. Chances are there will come a time when you can out flow the stock bypass valve, and at that time you'll need the aftermarket one. Usually when moving to aftermarket intercooler piping, you'll switch your BOV as well, simply because it's convenient to add it at the same time.

you can also recirculate (and should) aftermarket BOVs, so you don't get the loud ricer whistle..

the Tial is pretty good about not giving off that aura.. many others are kinda lame though IMO.

I happen to thoroughly enjoy the rice whistle! lol. I can't tell you how many people ive scared the living shit out of (mostly girls), its extremely entertaining. But yes, it should be recir'd unless you have an aftermarket setup like MAFT or standalone or vein pressure

I hear you, I have the HKS SSQV, bought the recirculation tip, but I need to do a few things due to the location of my BOV to recirculate..

I love the ricer whistle, but unfortunately it attracts too much attention..
