Were the Original Stock Toyota TEMS shocks made by Tokico? If not anyone know who did manufacture them? I know KYB made many Stock shocks for both cars and motorcycles coming from Japan.

Not to get off topic but I know the OEM hood struts were made by Tokico.

As I understand it KYB built them for toyota. I only mention it because I refered to tokico in my first post, only to point out that they are inferior to the factory units. TEMS is a patented technology, so I'm sure that affects the availability of replacements (I don't know if the design of the illumna is the same as the factory unit, I only know they are compatible).

For anyone who is interested here's what TEMS are according to the patent discription:
An apparatus for damping the movement of the body of an automobile. The apparatus includes a shock absorber having a pressure cylinder which forms a working chamber and a first and second portion. A first sensor is used to generate an electrical signal in response to whether the shock absorber is in compression or rebound. A second sensor is used for determining the movement of the body on the automobile. An electronic control module is used for generating an electrical control signal in response to the outputs of the first and second sensors. A solenoid is used for regulating the flow of damping fluid between the first and second portions of the working chamber. A piston assembly disposed within the pressure cylinder defines the first and second portions of the working chamber. The piston assembly includes a valve body and first and second unloaders adapted to control the flow of fluid between the first and second portions of the working chamber. At least one of the unloaders being located external to the valve body.

I'm probably the only one interested in it so appologies in advance.

you should not apologize to anyone. most of them gave you stupid answers.
i agree with you. i would like to keep the TEMS. i don't want to sacrifice comfort or quality just because naysayers say that it cannot be done.

I'd love to ADD TEMS if it was easy to do, but they don't seem to work as well with lowering springs, and aren't going to keep up with a full coilover setup...

TEIN with the controller may be the only way to get a TEMS like drive, but it's not quite the same as the TEMS react on the fly...

Maybe somehow mod the Tein system to work with the TEMS computer? That would be sweet...

Good luck with getting them rebuild as most shocks are mass produced garbage that was never meant to be rebuild, only scrapped...

I am getting some positive responses from Shock Rebuilders to take a shot at rebuilding our TEMS Shocks, what three of them are asking for is a blown shock so they can take a look at it and see if it can be done. One mentioned he would even add a schrader valve for the gas charge. My Question to you folks out there is this, If I you have a dead shock lying around and you would like to ship it to one of the companies, please private message me and we'll see where you live in relation to where the closest rebuilder is, then go from there.
