Eh...you know, it all depends on what cities you are comparing.
There are places in the States that have very friendly people (on average) and then there are other places where good manners/being considerate is less fashionable/valued.

I don't think that I have ever met any Canadian that I did not get along with.

Ever notice how many Canadians help run this site? GrimJack, Jeff Lange, Loki, UpgradedSupra, to name a few.
SF, on the other hand, seems to have a lot of Texans running that site.

And unlike what many think, for the most part of that country, they speak English. I don't know the exact percentages though.

Met a bunch of folks that were from Canada that I met in Florida.
Man, I was so surprised at the time just how much they spoke as if they were from the States. No detectible accent at all. As if they came from California or Upstate NY.

And honestly...EVERY place I went to in the US on my most recent trip had friendly people....from NYC(been there many times) to Tampa and all around - Maybe it's just that I live in toronto...people here are known to be pretty bad when compared to elsewhere

You think so? Come to Toronto where you'll get pulled over every day for having an exhaust...and where emissions may as well be almost as strict as Cali. Winnipeg is still a town in the middle of nowhere, that's why there's no "laws" per se.

Guns don't = violence. I'd much rather be able to own a gun and protect myself than have a bunch of gangbanging morons carrying them around knowing noone can stop them. We also have more crime in other categories, keep in mind.
