Like DB said - it's "track rules" at a lot of places.
My local 1/8 mi track wouldn't care, but M.I.R. is right around the corner - and I'm guessing they'll require it.

Even at that - I just want one for my own peace of mind.

Yes, unless I find a better option (haven't yet researched) I'll go with an Optima. I've got a yellow top in my F150 that only gets started on occaision - never a problem cranking over the 351, and she's a little tempermental sometimes.

:biglaugh: I mean after all - the current battery is all yucky & stuff

I hope you clean off that battery before you put it in the trunk ;)

LOL.. I dunno, all I can think of is fishing when I look at that battery box... It looks more like a tackle box than anything.

Well, I decided to go for the easy way ... no Rolls batteries (modular marine, check 'em out sometime) for me.

I just ordered this:

and one of these to put in it:

Once I get it all put together, I'm sure I'll do another "build thread" to show it all off.

As long as I was shopping, I picked up some fuel line & fittings - 'an' sizes 10 feed & 6 return. I also decided on an Edelbrock 'Victor Racing' Throttle Body, 75mm. Oh - and of course, the battery cables for the relo.

With a few other odds & ends I've been needing, it totaled damn near another $1k.

Good Lord but this build is gettin' expensive!!

Blue top is actually a better battery then yellow for the main starting battery. Yellow top was designed as high capacity, lower current, deep cycle for running audio systems and such. I have had several of all three in different vehicles and I got the least life out of the yellow top, the red top is actually better for the main battery. It's not worth an extra $50 or whatever more it is for a yellow, spend a few more bucks for the blue or stick with red.
Blue top is for marine application but that is because has more reserve, deep cycle, higher peak current, and higher capacity then both yellow and red, and it is a deep cycle battery. I have a blue top now and it has been great.

It can be done. Summit racing battery box kits fit under the targa, and still allow enough room to keep the spare, though it sits closer to the spare than the corner to clear under the roof. Conveniently, it will fit a full size battery as well. You have to cut the plywood floor a little, but no issues. Oh, though you do need to drop the tank to bolt the hold downs to the floor.

Bahhhh. I need weight on my back tires...All the weight I can get, I'm afraid. :naughty: Good thinking, though.

Well although I cannot contribute to this thread usefully, I'll go ahead and rub it in your face.:icon_bigg
No targa top, No spare tire, NO WORRIES! :biglaugh:
