hey guys, for the past few months ive been working at Reher-Morrison Racing Engines here in Arlington (mainly big chevy motors, but we do supra and viper engines as well) and I was running it by one of the CNC guys up there about CNC'ing my head if i brought it up, but hes not sure hed wanna take the time to write the program for a one time only deal. we currently have a 2JZ program, but that wouldnt work out too well. wanted to see if anyone on here might be interested, cuz with a few people itd be worth it to make a program for the 1JZ. if anyone is let me know, and i can start talking to my guy and seeing if hed do it and how much it would be and all.

This winter I plan on ripping my motor down and doing a bunch of work in the off season so I would be interested in even shipping mine down from the great north here to have it done if the price is right.

ill have to ask about the price and the improvements, a local supra shop uses us for their heads, so ill ask him about it

heres some pics of a 2j head that we did.

You 7m guys are always trying to play in our 1jz games..................:biglaugh:

I'm not trying to spoil anything for you BigZ, but is it true that porting and polishing doesn't help anything unless we go with larger valves. That's what I was told, but mine was already p&p. I was just wondering. Maybe they can get some oversized valves for the 1jz and cut them out while their at it. Just a thought.

you can improve flow by cleaning up material and smoothing it out... but eventually you will run into the restriction of the valves. Of course bigger will flow more, but not to say stock valves cant flow more.

I have a spare 1jz head you guys can play around on if you decide to try to come up with a program for it. just lmk

dont think thats true at all, on my friends sohc civic he gained 90 horsepower from 3 more lbs of boost and an upgraded cam from an aggressive port and polish and upgraded valvetrain (stock sizes)

I would like to know who informed you of this... You can improve flow by porting and polishing. Is it as beneficial as just going to larger valves? NO, but it can be up to a ~20% gain in flow just from removing the burrs and rough edges left from the casting back in the toyo factory... The best thing to do would be to oversize the valves AND port/polish, but that involves a good bit of money and labor.

But i do agree with you that it would be totally awesome if someone could throw in some over sized valves while port/polishing using a CNC...

I talked to Dave Lacalio at Headgames Motorworks, the guy that does the heads for the Bullish Racing cars. He told me when he does heads, unless it's going to be over 1500hp he leaves the stock sized valves in it.

Now that is when talking about 2JZ stuff, but porting defintely is beneficial even with stock size valves on any head. Also with any head you only polish on the exhaust side, and the chambers.

I'd be interested, and would really like to see before and after flow #'s.

One other thing kinda off-topic, Zavs you said you work at RM. I think a guy I went to school with works there. Big guy from Dallas, went to school in Houston named Travis. Last I heard he was working there just wondering if he's still there.

i may be interested with a little more information. i think mine needs the valve stem seals anyway which might just be enough of an excuse to tear the whole head apart.

well if the cost is right for the performance, I would see this as a very popular thing to do. if your getting a head decked and squared off, why not?
