I used to own a 18ft catalina for a few years, and sailed on the local lakes. About 6 months ago my father purchased a 8.3m Columbia super cruiser. We totally redid the boat. He's sailed 28+ft boats his whole life in Miami in the ocean.
The boat has:
New interior updated with GPS, Marine radios, 25in TV, dvd player, cd radio, microwave, rebuilt gas cooktop, new shower and toilet, sleeping for 4. We also will have autopilot and radar installed by summer. We removed the gas engine and 2 blade prop and installed a diesel and 3 blade prop. Also now has alternator to charge onboard batterys (two semi truck deep cells and huge inverter).
Outside has new hyperbolic paint, running lights, all new rigging, new teak trim, and reconditioned sails.
I'm just really proud of my father, he did all the work himself. I'll have to take some pics and post em up. It's currently docked in South Daytona, but due to all the hurricanes the sandbars in the intercoastal are really shallow, we can only go out during high tide. It's a 8 ton heavy ocean boat, and draws nearly 5ft of water, more then most motor boats twice it's size. We're going to move it to somewhere by the space center where it's alot easier to get to the ocean. Our goal is to make it out to the bahamas by the end of the year.
