85 had a complete suspension setup. Since most people are generally too stupid to drive a sporting car, toyota had to deal with lots of unhappy people who spun their brand new sports cars. So what do they do? make the car handle worse, how do they do that? Take the front swaybar out.

The interior stuff was like the changeover in 89 int he supras, the interior just became nicer.

OHHH. I was thinking from a racing perspective and not a consumer perspective when i remembered that. i thought it was a little flaw that caused some bad handling for spirited driving compared to the later 'refined' handling, if you will.

thanks.

i just glanced but the interior of this mr2 looked pretty nice. then again the whole car looked pretty pristine minus some shopping cart shit. It will feel a little more outdated but whatever. I might go ask the guy about his car later this week...

What's a good way to confront someone about a car that is not posted for sale? I'm not totally set on this car so i can't go to him and say, "hi, i'd love to buy your car and have cash, if you are willing to sell" ...i'm more of a... "would you be willing to sell this car? If so, I will try to get things arranged to i can purchase it at the right price" kind of guy - at the moment. I can't have two cars at once. :p

(i'm in college. so yes IJ with no job that makes me exempt from your silly DD is the slower vehicle rule... ;) )

Just ask if its for sale!

Ive bought many a thing from peoples open garages, just by ringing the doorbell and asking if they would sell it. Most people will sell stuff for a price!

a GE supra? what the hell is that?

now, do you really think i should look for something less in a DD? or was that a joke. i'm kinda tired.

BWB - ok, thanks. never done it before i just wanted to make sure and possibly increase chances of a "yes"

I over complicate some things. :)

My cadillac is probably faster than a GE supra... Sad.

MR2's are finnikey tho. Gotta remember that. Lots of rather hard to locate parts .

:-/ any in particular that i should be concerned about?

maybe i should just give up. :3d_frown:

IJ has a point, But an MR2 isn't a bad choice.

I'm really only thinking about suspension pieces and such. Like with all other cars, take care of it, and she can take care of you. Find the best example you can, and nurse it.

Only if you buy from the dealer. I never really had to buy anything HUGE from the dealer for any of my Toyotas, but it never really ever cost me and arm and a leg. Maybe stuff in Australia is just more expensive haha.

what kinds of stuff are we talking for Genuine only? so far i've found lots of supra engine things from other brands and I don't really see what would be on an MR2 that would break and not be found at a NAPA or equivalent parts store...

I don't really see what would be too bad though I mean, i'm not looking for a worn out MR2, i'm looking for one with stock shiny paint and a good owner. Can't be much to do to that right? it has a corolla motor...so it will be just as easy and cheap as my supra...if not cheaper

I dunno...i am just so drawn to sports cars but i want a DD and i can't have one without the other and i can't afford two separate cars unless i get a freebie. even then that's pushing it.

and i KNOW what GE is i forgot about the whole gte/ge thing and was thinking strictly "n/a"...i am tired.

maybe my idea of having a n/a MR2 as a daily and the occasional auto-x car isn't the best idea... i can never make a decision. I was originally wanting a 4runner (slow, mundane, usable and fun with the 4x4 and removable top) but they are too much money. can't afford a turbo supra and i won't buy another GE... so i went to the next thing on my list that was cheap - mr2.

maybe, i should just see what comes into my hands first? i did that with the supra cause i was actually looking for a 4runner and my supra was one of the first i saw for sale and it was nice...so i grabbed it. then I BHG'd. hahaha

Dont everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr buy a DD and think you can occasionally track it. You will find problems with it, fast. Ask me how I know.

You know what I really want as a DD? a GT-S corolla, but.. the AE92. 88-91 or something. FWD 4AGE wooot!

Why is a 4age FWD so nice?

I do like those corolla's....my friend's ex had one. in fact, my friend is the one who got my into MR2's... :biglaugh:

I broke a lot of suspension components tracking my 50000 mile Porsech 944 Turbo, once. If your going to track a car, you really shouldn't have to rely on it to take you to work the next day without putting a lot of money into it.

FWD 4AGE = cool. They are piss cheap, and are reliable as hell. And have my favorite Toyota engine in it haha

Fig: I don't think you're understanding the concept of DD ;)

You drive it A>B and back to A

You don't autoX it, it doesn't need to be sporty it needs to run 100% of the time so you can get around when the Supra is broken.

I wouldn't want to track it now. but just encase you had an image of something else (lol, here i go) - there aren't objects to hit at my local auto-x place...so i would wear stuff out but i didn't see myself actually breaking parts unless there are weak points. but maybe i'd be surprised like you were BWB... i'm new to this.

i mean...it's driving around cones, not big bumps, jumps, curbs, or spinning out into grass or safety areas...just pavement. it's an abandoned airport.
bushings, drivetrain, and suspension parts that move will wear out but i could still drive the car and refresh it on vacations. I was thinking like... a few track days per YEAR. maybe 2 or 3 a year... not a weekend warrior. sorry. if that makes it any more acceptable let me know.

i'm not quite all here though..i'm tired and i need sleep. if i'd still break the car beyond fast repair with a couple auto-x runs a year - something seems wrong..but what's wrong might be in my head? Anyway I wouldn't want to auto-x unless i could front cash to fix my car and it isn't a focus. just something fun to enjoy myself every now and again.

but i'm probably still wrong. i just looked at a few people i know and assumed i could get away with it. one guy had a civic CRX he ran around cones at our auto-x track...but then again he had pics of himself in his engine bay so he must have had enough time, money and probably another car. the other kid was spoiled, had a WRX and couldn't care less if his car broke he'd just fix it and not go to school. (still in highschool too)

oook. well i suppose a n/a mr2 wouldn't be the greatest track car anyhow. I'd be fine just driving the mr2 normal without tracking it. Maybe i could save for a track car later and DD the n/a MR2 throughout, keep it nice...?

It rains here during the winter. It hailed hard today because its been storming here. No snow though, ever. (well once but it was a freak day) I was hoping the car would be fine in wet weather if i drive safely and maturely. that was one of my main goals of this thread.

..............I think i need to go to bed. :nono:
