Well... Repainting my Supra's engine bay. I wanted to do black regardless, it will make everything under the hood "pop" along with hiding dirty and grease....

Regardless, I have been wanting to do something with purple pearl in the black paint.

Can anyone envision this and let me know what they think?

Stock Pearl White Supra

Black engine bay - 2 tbsp pearl powder / qt mixed in the base, then cleared over
or
Black engine bay - 1 tbsp pearl powder / qt mixed in the clear, and then 1-2 layers of just clear over it.

I wanted to carry this theme to the valve covers, intake manifold, wheel faces, and brakes.

The purple should be pretty subtle on a black base, but def. show that its not normal black depending on the light.

Opinions? I know there will be a lot of haters on this one, haha.

paint your engine bay the same color as the car so it matches and doesnt look like a cheap paint job where the door jam's are a different color than the rest of the car.

I have seen a few MK3's with black engine bays, they look good I thought. A lot of old cars had black engine bays too...

My goal was to bring the rest of the car to be painted this color too, eventually. But for now, no.

This is a discussion, I want to know what people think :)

I'd give it a nice new coat of white honestly. I agree with hvyman, just makes it look like a cheap paint job if you don't have it the same color as the outside.

The only thing I've ever seen done that doesn't look like complete shit, is a black engine bay, regardless of the color car. White with black bay, red with black bay, blue with black bay, etc.

I have a friend with a 1J and a black bay, looks great, do what you want.

It's an interresting idea. However, the part about wanting to hide oil/dirt? You will have a harder time diagnosing problems when you can't tell that your turbo oil feed has blown and coated the bay with oil heh.
