Before i discuss my issue.. i have searched through previous threads for this similar problem on white smoke, but there is nothing to as what im experiencing.

For the past couple of weeks i have been experiencing white smoke coming from my exhaust pipe on start-up. I live in Miami, so i thought that maybe it was from the cold front that landed a couple of weeks back... Cold and warm air mixed = Smoke! :3d_frown: Anyways.. the problem persists and seems to be getting worse every time i warm the car up before i drive. It used to be just a small cloud right on start up, but now to this day the smoke cloud has gotten much bigger and persists longer... No smoke while i drive, or even when i start the car back up after i do my groceries etc. This is my third Supra MK3, but my first white smoke dilemma. I'm not sure what to look for but my first guess is a gasket, but which? :1zhelp: I don't know what to do, and i don't want to leave my car basking in this smoke problem as i get ready for Afghanistan in Feb., i really want to tackle this problem now and keep it running strong. Anything to help will be greatly appreciated, and thank you.

any overheating issues or coolant loss? Oil consumption? Does it only do it when it has sat overnight, or have you noticed? You could have bad oil ring(s). letting some oil get past when you go to start it after it has been sitting over night or however long. Not bad enough to smoke when driving or after consecutive start up after engine is warm.

Do you have any other symptoms, such as drivability?

Ah, that may explain the oil pressure issue too.. i had lost some oil pressure because it would usually sit a bit below 40. I'm not having any overheating, no oil loss, and no coolant loss either. I check that constantly and haven't seen any signs of it being consumed abnormally. But like you asked, it does smoke on start up after its been sitting over night.

I am not 100% but i have had rings do that, when cold they would not seal up properly, after engine was warm smoke was gone none there after until sitting over night. You can always do a leak down test (make sure each cylinder is tdc compression). try it on cold engine with fuel and spark disabled, then again on warm engine after smoke is all cleared up. most gauges will have indicators red yellow green on what is an exceptable leakdown percentage. On the cold engine if it is the rings you will hear or feel air pressure from dipstick tube or oil cap.

You sir are so completely wrong it's not even funny..not one bit!!!!

Compression/leak down mean nothing on a cold motor....every motor known to man will read different when cold! Engines break in while hot and run 99.999999% of it's life hot, so the hot reading is what matters! Smoking on start up is a sign that your valve seals are leaking as it will slowly puddle in you're cylinders or on your valves and burns off. Testing a cold motor is like beating your dick against the wall as metal has shrunk and shifted from the temp change.....this is why extream motor builders making record breaking engines pump hot water threw the block while they machine it!

Please don't post in tech if you have not a clue!

Too the op....an oil leak won't change oil pressures unless the leak is so massive that it pumps all your oil out in a matter of seconds....odds are you have bad valve seals.

Yep i agree, sounds like valve stem seals. Quite an easy job once you get the hang of it. My biggest tip is don't put in e-bay type valve stem seals. Go buy some genuine Toyota ones or at least from a reputable company.
Plenty of write ups on here about it, so read up first as there is a few little tricks to making the job easier.

boy are lucky today is your lucky day my supra did exact same thing as yours turned out to be valve guide seals when the car sits if the seals are bad oil seeps through onto the piston and when you fire it up it burns that off once your going no smoke only when you start it longer it sits the more the smoke or the worse the seal gets the more the smoke.
