When I replaced the heater core in my Typhoon, it came w/ detailed instructions about preventing electrolysis - reverse plating that eats up the copper core.
They recommended measuring the voltage between the coolant and the block w/ a digital volt meter. If there is any voltage potential then the copper core is being sacrificed, and the coolant should be changed using DISTILLED water and fresh antifreeze. (ions in tap water will cause a voltage difference...)
