Which way does the crankshaft rotate?

I figured it out by thinking of the trick people use to loosen the crank bolt, If the starter can be used to loosen it, then you can easily figure out the direction the crank turns

the cam gear bolts would be loosened if it turned CCW haha

I think you got the answer, but on my golf cart, it spins both directions. One way for forward, and the other for reverse. I thought that was pretty cool.

Do you have to stop and restart the engine to change direction?

Yep, you switch the key when you stop. It's a 1980 Yamaha G1 with a two stroke motor.

It only runs when you are going.

btw, only a few engines here in domestic passenger cars rotate CCW... namely hondas. the only hondas that rotate CW are the H and F series, iirc. possibly the new R and K series too.

It's one of those things that seems like I should know, can't easily check, and would be a major fuckup if I were wrong.
