about to pull the tranny to do a clutch job and i thought i might as well upgrade the thrust washer. the tranny was fully rebuilt with new bearings and syncros by me about 5k miles ago. whenever the tranny is decelerating in first or second there is a loud whineing noise from the tranny. first gear it whines bad and second is not as bad but still there. NO IDEA why it does this but whatever. anyways there are two thrust washer upgrades available. the marlin crawler one, which is oem size and will bolt in and be done. OR the wes beech thrust washer which he made thicker than stock so you can have it machined down to take up slack in the tranny. i was thinking maybe wes beech's thrust washer machined to the right size will tighten up the tranny and possibly get rid of the annoying whine. both are the same price so let me know what you think.

End play will not cause whine, just a clunk sound.

Do you have a machine shop at your disposal ?
Do you have any idea how difficult it is to 're-machine' a shim whasher ?
(most shops will not do a job like that, or they will just take it over to a belt sander and do a half-ass job)

I went with the Marlin Crawler.
Made by people who specialize in drive train parts.

Regardless of where you get the thrust washer from, be sure to get the bearing plate that marlin crawler sells as that's supposed to be as much the culprit of thrust washer failure as the washer itself.

If I remember correctly, Marlin crawler does still sell the washer, but they believe that they bearing plate is ultimately the main problem.

ya i dont think you can buy any parts from marlin crawler unless you have a vendors license. my r-154 is shot already when i took it to the dragstrip i put everything marlin crawler makes for this tranny and it still messed up. im going to have to take it apart and see if that 1st gear thrust washer is broke.

damn, i have seen a few threads and posts on google about the marlin one breaking. i may be going with the beech performance one if this is the case. as for the bearing plate, they sell one on there website that is made of i guess just regular steel and driftmtoion sells a chromoly marlin bearing plate but it is 30$ more. is the chromoly one really necesarry. thanks for all the replies!, u too Cz
