Warning you all, this is a long post, plz be patient
Im in the market for a mk3 supra. There are only 2 cars that im interested in thats within my area. One is a 1987 black 5speed n/a mk3 that has been sittin for 3yrs, hasnt been started in a yr and he is asking $300 for it. The frame is rust free and it has the usual rust around the wheel wells. and has a scratch that has begun to surface rust on roof. Nothing serious. Interior is good, the main problem is the car wont start and it leaks gas if the tank is more then half full.
My other option is my cousins 1988 n/a supra that he is sellin for 3,000. He is the only owner, has a rebuild engine with less then 20,000 miles, and pretty much has everythin you can buy for a supra, honestly the list is too long to put but the receits total to more then 8,000 of jus add-ons, The whole suspension system, shocks, springs, urethane bushings, Larger disc brakes, brake lines, larger calipers, spec2 clutch, high performance cams, high compression pistons, custom individual throttle bodies, headers, 3inch exhaust a nice sound system, nice rims, he really has a ton of work done to it so even though its n/a i beleive its worth 3,000 and he is again the only owner.
now i can purchase the $300 non running supra and work on it or purchase the 3,000 in perfect condition supra (but i would have to give him 1000 down and pay $500 a month until its paid off). Im a college student so i was really leanin towards the $300 supra and going turbo and in the end it would be about 3,000 for a turbo car. I also love workin on cars and want somethin that i can build and take pride in and say that i put it 2gether but then again my cousin supra does seem like a steal. What do you guys think?

Pics of said Supras?

Me? I would spend the $3,000 if it really is in as good condition as you claim it to be. How many miles on each? I may not even pay $3,000 but I would take a nice condition running N/A Supra over a trashed non-running N/A Supra, given the prices.

Throw some pics of them on here, the more the better.

spend the 3k. Surface rust means much more wheel well rust - it will cost you more than $2700 just to keep water from getting in to your interior when driving in the rain. Don't ask how I know.

Both cars were Ny cars but the rust on the non runnin one is alot more around on the wheel wells and theres non along the outdoor trim pieces of the car. omfg to buy this one or to buy that one, thats is the question ,,

Just sit down and make a list of Pro's vs. Con's of each car, my virtual list says that you should spend the $3,000~ and buy the much better car. You do afterall get what you pay for...

well wensday my father is going to see how much insurance would be a month if i were to add the supra under his plan, (Im gettin Georgia plates and insurance so it shouldnt be that much), just to see if im able to afford the insurance payments and to give my cousin $300 a month for it and still pay my tuition. I go to john jay college of criminal justice in the city by the way. I guess if its possible then ill take my cousins, it has to be one of the heaviest modded n/a's around. Thanks everybody for the advice, all i ask him 2 send me sum pics of his itb's setup.

college kid + $300 supra + turbo = lots of walking.

save your pennies, buy a RELIABLE car for now and get a project car once you've graduated and have excess $$.

im a college kid w/ a reliable supra and i still dont recomend it. Your going to blow all of your money trying to make it reliable and once you get there your just going to have to keep throwing money at it to keep it like that for more than just a month.

It was said, my engine can drive another 100k miles easily....it lasted like 37k :D Pushing gas in the wrong place could be the root of all evil, but who knows, maybe there was something else wrong before it.... :)

As much as I'd like to say go for the one for 300, it really isnt the best choice in your current position seems like. Instead go the safer route and spend the 3k.

Dude iv got the same Problem But if i where you just take a look at whats being Sold or offered and think about the pro's and con's of having a supra if you really are intrested in them! hook up with some one that has a supra let them explian to you How much you have to BABY them all their life!! If your looking for a project where you work everyday on something new. Then the supra is the way to go. Just remeber the decision you make will impact your life as it Journy's On.
