Im using my dads car for a lil while and i wanna know what yall think.

My car is equiped with a Escort 8500 X-50

His car is equiped with the Valentine 1

Escort pros:
Ive used it steadily for almost a year so im used to the way it acts.
Im used to the settings and the signal strenght stuff ect.
From my experience it kicks speeds traps ass.

V-1 Pros:
Supposedly just as good a unit if not better
Has arrows
Its already in the car

V-1 Cons:
Ive never used it before.
I dont know how any additional settings work just encase i wanna play with it
Im not sure of the signal strength, with the escort which im used too, i can tell about how far they are.

Im definetly considering playing with the v-1, but the escort that ive used for so long give me that extra cushion of comfort.

I'd use the valentine I like them better, I currently have a cobra in my car since I am not a richer like your dad, LOL.

I've got a Corba too.... I think that it works good... I like it cause Illinois use's a shit load of UC cars.... and will sit on the side of the road with hazards on and speed trap people... and it catchs them... I dont get to many unwanted warnings either..

i used one of them X50 escorts for a while.. they are AWESOME, so i say go for the escort. :D

If you've used it then you see why this is hard for me. To me the escort is "ol reliable" but theres something new i can try :dunno:

Any v-1 users on here, i could use your feed back

I forgot about this thread:

Heres the conclusion i've came too.

I only used it for one day, and barely ran into any radar attacks.I hit one or two, but it didnt matter anyways cause i wasnt speeding because the weather was nasty. From what i could tell, the radar did alert with more than ample time to slow down. Around town i run all radars on what would be their "highway" settings so false alarms are greatly increased. I feel the x-50's filtration system is slightly better, as it didnt go as wild as the v-1 in the same places with same false alarms. The v-1 did have a stronger rear antenna than the x-50, i did notice that radar attacks from the rear stayed "inrange" longer than on the x-50. Im going to try using the V-1 again in the future see if i can test its full potential. With the stronger rear antenna, and arrows telling you the direction of the attack, I CAN ALMOST JUSTIFY PAYING ITS $400 PRICE TAG.

Hey, I've been looking at getting a detector, iono which to get, but here's a thought I have for you. I'm wondering if you couldn't use em both in your car at the same time, see which goes off farthest from the trap. Or would they interfere with each other. Iono if that would work or not. LMK which one you end up deciding you like best after a while....Lol.

if your on a budget the the Pro-58 or Pro-78 (Whistler) they are usually about 80-120 dollars and are the best bang for the buck.
and i would go with the V-1 because it gots the arrows. but i would just keep the x-50 if you like it, long as it works :)

I used the v-1 for a day, the convience is just the arrows. Range wise they were about the same. No need in spending 150 more for some arrows with similar performance. If your interested in a detector i believe i posted a link to reviews in an ealier post, check it out, it will give you all the info you will ever need.

Im happy with my x-50 and i have no intentions of swapping it out with the v-1.

With a X-50,v-1,rx-65,or sti you shouldnt get pulled over by conventional means

RX-65 would be my choice over the x-50 because the rx can be flashed to be able to detect that new radar wave that might be coming out soon. But otherwise ya they are preaty bad ass radar detectors. I personally have a laser jammer :)

Ive already checked, escort will be offering a software upgrade for existing x-50 units when the new guns come out.It may be a few extra $$$ but it will keep me from buying another unit

Depends on the signal. X, K or KA (Wideband) and Lidar.

The V1 is better on X, and the range on K is about the same as Escort. On KA I belive the V1 kicks ass. (POP type use, it's very good.)

Everything sucks on Lidar. (V1 is ok, but nothing is very good, there is just not enough scatter energy to pick up, so if you get a tone, your toast because they just determined your speed.)

Best option if you have tons of money to spend is the V1 and a Lidar jammer mounted at the license plate are, front and rear. You will get some false Lidar returns from signs and other vehicles, but it's a small price to pay to cut down on the range of the PD Lidar.

I've really liked my V1 for the few years I've had it. I also liked my Uniden from the 80's... LOL It was an Escort copy, has great range, but only works on X and K bands. (But it's as good there as my Valentine IMHO.)

Where the V1 shines is in giving you "location" of the radar. Once you have used the arrows for awhile, you'll never want to go back to not knowing where the radar signal is located. (And how many there are... ) Can't say how many times I'm driving through town, have the door openers on radar, and can watch them go from front, to side to back, and then have a PD cruiser suddenly show up in front, as #4, and using K band or something. The other detectors just beep and flash, and you have no idea what's going on.. Probably saved me from a ticket. (I know that sounds like the ad, but it happens all the time when your in town..)

Where the V1 rules is on the wide open road. If the patrol car has radar on, you know about it miles away at times. And unless they are using instant on, or POP, or Lidar, your going to be warned well in advance of ticket territory.

The great thing about range is if you are "shadowing" another vehicle that's speeding, give them 1/4 mile or so, and then just follow along.. If the patrol car zing's the first vehicle, you get the warning, and have plenty of time to slow down. Just don't honk the horn and wave at the first car while it's being pulled over... LOL

Had one alert in Yellowstone across the lake... It must have been over 2 miles.. This ranger had his radar on and broadcasting, and I was doing about 70mph in the 45mph zone... (the whole park is 45mph..) So, I'm looking for lights, and slow down to 50mph.... Takes forever, and the only lights I can see are this other vehicle across/around the lake, so eventually we pass, and the detector is going nuts of course, and it's the ranger... The "arrows" let me tell that as we turned around the lake, it went from a front to a side and back to a front signal... Very cool
