Jay just likes it because it looks so much like his.................AND because it is a very fine car. I remember hearing about Mike U. And I remember the IJ drama. I identify more with IJ, as I wasn't very active during Mike's prime. I miss IJ!

I have loved the Supra since the MKII was introduced in 82. I had a friend who had a MKI, but I was still an anti-Jap/ Classic Mustang Driving teenager. I finally got my first Supra (an 85 MKII) in 92 when I divorced my first wife and left her with our only car. I got the kid, she got the car. I drove it stock for 7 years and loved it. I got my start in MKIII's through parting that car out, and buying more to part after that. Then I started hearing about mods from those buying parts. Now I'm more active on the forums than just a guy selling parts ( so tired of the part out thing). I love helping new guys with my past experiences. I can't help everybody, but I will gladly help those I can.

I also did not arrive to the "internet community" until 2002, although I was buying Supra go fast parts as early as 1995 for the 7MGE.

I never heard of Mike Urbano until he passed. Nice looking ride. And an SUV has nothing to do with it, an irresponisble driver does. It could have been a Supra that hit him.

For the most part, I never got into making really high horsepower, although I starting picking up the pieces for a turbocharged 7MGE. I even bought a newer style thick wall 7M block. I didn't even know it was a different block until IJ showed pics of the old one.

To me, the Supra was a luxury GT, as Toyota planned. Not the balls to the walls hot rod others viewed it as. I like the 5.0 Mustang and Grand National for those things.

The earliest national news I remember was "SupraDave" who also has passed I believe. I read about his car in Turbo magazine, back when it was a good rag. He ran low 11's and laid down 500 rwhp on a stock long block, in other words, bolt ons. Another was the shop Toyomoto, which the owner had also had a 500+rwhp Supra.

Oh yeah, I have hated the JZA80 since it debuted. It is just ugly. The styling has grown on me, and I can live with it. But I won't forgive Toyota for giving us a jellybean styled car. It was a great machine mechaically, if not for being a little overly complicated on the turbocharger system. I have nothing against the owners, and never did. Just the car. So I am not familiar with that battle.
