A synchro is an internal transmission part.

You can buy the synchros from any toyota dealer and they really arent very expensive. Do you feel like taking apart your transmission?

just wanting to know alittle more about the syncro. if im taking out the clutch and replacing it, wouldnt it be easy to replace my syncro then? my car is just having alittle trouble going into second gear some times, mainly when cold. or if im slowing down and want to go into second it doesnt usualy like to.

I think you're missing what we're saying: the clutch does not have synchros. They're part of the internals of the transmission, and require a complete transmission disassembly to replace.

damn near all manual transmissions have trouble down shifting into first and second... This you can't avoid unless you (what I believe you call it) double clutch... Meaning that when going down a gear you: 1. Clutch in 2. Pull out of gear 3. Blip throttle real quick to raise engine rpm to hopefully match transmission speed of the next gear down 4. Pull into next gear 5. Clutch out..

Now I could be wrong on the term but in order to down shift like that its best to match engine rpms to help the syncronizers do the job cause they can only do so much on there own!

Your syncs are probably fine! And they have nothing to do with the clutch LOL

Oh and if you keep forceing it into 2 and 1 you will soon enough need syncs cause that is very hard on them if you don't match rpms.... Same rule applies to shifting without useing the clutch which can be done.... Semi trucks don't have syncs and that's why they sound funny when they are shifting cause the driver has to speed match engine to trans for it to go into gear, and its also why you hear them grind gears all the time.

This sounds kind of dumb.

Did you put some Redline in your trans yet?

I'm sorry?

And as far as what I said... I mean this in the most extream case like raceing...not for driveing around town!

And no I use regular gear oil...

The whole point of synchros is so you DONT have to double clutch. You can, it won't do any damage.. but the point of synchros is to match gears at different RPMs. You only need to blip the throttle when you're really high on the revs, and even then, just depress the clutch, shift and blip, release clutch. Voila.

Exactly... I fail at makeing that clear my bad.... Down shifting at low rpm should be smooth as can be....but if your at 4500 rpm trying to get into second its not gonna wanna go in very easy and its hard on the syncs.

Double clutch means you press the clutch twice... Hence the name.

Clutch in, put into neutral from previous gear, release clutch, rev engine to match RPM's of desired gear, clutch in, shift into gear, clutch out.

As opposed to single clutch...

clutch in, change gear, clutch out.

You're talking about swapping synchro's like it's an easy job. It's a far cry from simply removing the tranny to swap out a clutch. Do you have a press?
