It's underneath, tucked up high near the front of the motor. It's in a bitch of a location. Good luck replacing it, it'll piss you off.

Adam
so does that mean its at the end of the bottom coolant hose? as opposed to at the end of the top coolant hose where I just took off A SHITLOAD OF FUCKING PIPING:cry:?

Follow the lower radiator hose to the block and you'll find the thermostat housing. Take off the hose and then it is 2 12mm bolts holding it on there. You can get to it from the bottom. It isn't hard at all the change out.

I can't believe I took almost all of the piping for the twins trying to get to the end of the top coolant hose:3d_frown: when I got there I was like...what the hell? where did it go? than I read some stuff about some people not finding a tstat when they opened up their shit so I thought maybe it didn't have one... but then I followed the bottom coolant hose and it took 3min with the right tools. it sucked.

I did the same exact thing, expecting it to be on the top hose. I'm so used to working on the 7m.

oh yeah its definatley fucked that I took off all the upper piping because I too am used to working on a 7M, but... I'm glad I'm not the only one:biglaugh: anyways If anyone is wondering what the perfect tool is that makes the job a 15-20 min job, it's a 1/4 drive ratchet with an extension and a tall 12mm socket. I couldn't believe how much extra work I did. sometimes I think my car is just testing me to see if I am worthy enough to drive such a badass engine:icon_bigg . at least it doesn't leak like my 7M used to. I would put in 2-3 quarts of Syn a week:aigo: Anyways, glad to know I'm not the only one.

With a wobble extension, you can do it in a few mins. I musta changed my stat 10 times. Now that i'm single turbo, the only way to do it is under the car. I also had to modify my water neck (cut 1in off) so I could run my IC piping lowered (i didnt go straight down then front like MKIV's, I ran along the rail to avoid damage from my car being so low).

could someone clarify on the Stant Tstats sucking? does that mean they will fail earlier or not function properly. Oh yeah. I'm having a hard time getting a good seal on the Tstat because It is on bottom so it will not stay in the hole in block becuase of gravity. How did you guys get a good seal on your Tstats? I was thinking of putting it in the metal fitting on the end of the coolant hose and than bolting it down as opposed to trying to hold it in place on the block the best I could while putting the metal fitting on the two bolts. how did you guys do it because mine is leaking cause of poor seal.
