I did because there's nothing left to say. I told you everything it could possibly be. In fact I'm beginning to think helping you was a waste of time...

How funny, because I was beginning to think asking you was a waste of my time. you sit there and give me ONE link to troubleshoot my cel problem and act like you worked at it with me daily for three weeks, talk me down and say I was wasting your time. Isn't that what this forum and tech section is all about is helping people who aren't sure what a problem is or how to fix it?? just because you are good with electrics doesn't mean you have to be an ass to me if I ask some questions. all i needed was some reassurance that even though I ran another ground my ecu was screwed before I went and spent hundreds on another one, and if the new one might get screwed up if I plugged it in. But nooooo, you already gave me one link acting like you are god and that has GOT to be the problem because you said it is and who the fu$k do I think I am asking you about something else. thanks for nothing. I hope everyone else on this board isn't like you and more willing to help.

i think he's teaching you to fish;) he told you what it is.

why do you think the new one would get screwed?

Before you become dead to me what I told you *does* have to be the problem. While this may be rocket science to you it's near intuitively obvious for someone of my skill level. And did you think the TRSM being in agreement was some kind of ooga-booga? Your problem for me is equivalent to someone asking you why a tire is flat. One does not have to be God or even an angel which, as you're finding out, I'm not. What I am is not the one with a broken car.

I told you what it must be. I pointed you to the factory diagnostic path for the exact symptom and then followed up with a detailed explanation. What more did you want, your hand held? Not gonna happen. Nor should you go off on tangents. If you're unwilling to accept the advice of someone more knowledgeable (let alone the board's electrical/ECU SME and the service manual) then you shouldn't solicit it.

That's it, off with your head. Nice goin' Ace....

:rofl::kickinthenuts:

on a bit of a side note jetjock. what causes a ecu to crater? i know heat and vibration are bad for them, but i think i read somewhere you said they dont fail often..is that correct?

that is exactly what I am trying to get at to when I asked him the first time. to answer your question of why I think the new one might go out is because I don't know of it simply just failed or if there might be something shorting out in the car which will cause the new one to fail the instant I plug it in

A short will do it. So will bad capacitors (1JZ ECU's a famous for this one). Since none of us can see said ECU or car (including JJ), to tell you it's one vs the other or something else is pure speculation.

i'm not defending you by any means. i just thought that was funny because it's true, i can read schematics somewhat well, and i understand it. i even think you do too.

That flow chart jj gave you in post 2!! is exactly what Toyota Mechanics follow...so if it's followed..what makes YOU different?????

Jdub/Jetjock: a short to what? internal you mean? as far as i can tell other than M-REL, W, TE1, and E1. All other points are all delivery 12v. and even if those points were delivered 12 volts(from a short) would it cause a problem??
Ohh and is the CEL the only load on that circuit?, i doubt it for some reason or else why such high current Fusible links? So if 12v did find its way to W i dont think that woud hurt anything.
hope this makes sense

EDIT: What I was trying to get at is can the cars wiring alone cause a ECU failure..if so,where.

Good, because nor do I want or need your defense. I am glad you think that I can read schematics good, but the fact is I have NEVER dealt with them, so no I don't really know them. I am trying to learn them, but right now am still a noobie at it.

When did I ever say anything makes me different???????? I didn't. I simply asked if there could possibly be anything else, that's it. Because I have other toyota mechanics of 25 years giving me other ideas even after I told him jets solution, who are also alot more willing to help than he is.

EDIT: What I was trying to get at is can the cars wiring alone cause a ECU failure..if so,where.[/QUOTE]

That is what I have been trying to get an answer to as well but can't seem to. Do I expect a definite answer of yes or no? Absolutely not. All I am asking for is a "from my experience yes or no". should be simple enough for someone of his "skill level"
