I use a chain block and a load leveller here and have had my motor out more than most and do it by myself most times.

Ahh, now that is exactly what I need to hear. That is what I think I will do, I need some challenges right? Anyhow, Ill just lift the rear then start pulling then move the car back what a plan.

Ha well I am having trouble right now, I have everything disconnected.. and well everything is not working out I kept the mounts on.. and I am going to take those off, they get hung on a lot of things.. but I lifted the back end and it's not really doing anything for me?

So I am jsut going to keep plugging away and see what happens.

I come from a land down under
I lift level until the studs on the mounts clear the subframe I then wind the load leveller to tilt the front of the engine up tilt/lift tilt/lift then fully tilt it and lift until the trans is about to touch the tunnel, move the car forward a bit and lift some more.

Once the trans is clear of the tunnel I lift the engine high enough so the pan clears the rad support panel and level it and roll the car backwards.

I don't raise the rear of the car at all......

Takes me 15 minutes from when the crossmember and engine mounts are undone to it being on the floor.

Me and my friend pulled my 7mgte motor today with the tranny both our first time ever pulling a motor and it was successful I would say 2 people makes it go by fairly smooth. And I am sure some experience will def. help out.

jack front up, with enough angle you should clear.. pull the mounts off motor if it helps. going to be doing same thing on a old bmw 320i in about two weeks maybe... maybe I'll get a vid.

ehh anyways its not hard at all just it'll piss you off at first if you never done it before.

Alright well I am going to lift the front, and I don't know why the rear was suppose to be lifted, but Im not doing that again :) Anyhow, I will do what I am reading and let you all know how it is coming.

Painting a engine black and it's parts dissipates heat better doesn't it?

well...............if you lift the front of the car that means you have to get the engine even higher in the air. compared to if you left it level or jacked up the back. when using a cherry picker you have to keep in mind it only goes SO HIGH. that is why i jack up the back of the car. it lowers the front.

here you can see when i last drop my motor in my new sup. all i had to was slightly lower the motor until it was just above the core support. then go forward. lower little. go foward. lower little. jacking up the back brings the tranny tunnel to a bett angle to get the motor in compared to being level. that is how i was taught.

but doing it with a chain hosit thing isn't exactly the most ideal tool. so things aren't going to work the same

Finally got it broke lose it's 1/2 way out of the car, and sadly I had to find out the hard way. the car dropped out the jack stands. Lucky me though no damage was created, and I worked two hours got no where with the car, and now it's in the prime position to take it out.

WOW! this sucks.. id rather pull the motor then tranny, but I do know how hard it is. I never had to take a tranny out really... I always pull motor leave the tranny there.
