I have never pulled a 7m-gte with the transmission on it.. I hear though it is a lot easier.. I was just wondering if yo just unhook everything.. and then just TILT a lot to get it out or if there is anything i should be aware of, like I said I pull the motor 1st straight up and then the transmissions straight down, so any help would be great!!

Only to remember to unhook the two harness that lead to the tranny. I just "cut" them and reconnect them when it is time for install. I have removed 6+ 7m's this way. I have never unhooked the tranny to remove the engine, I just think it is easer to take the two out together.

You will also need a leveler for your charry picker.
something like this
http://store.summitracing.com/partd...SUM%2DG1021&N=700+301652+115&autoview=sku

Remember when you tilt the tranny it will dump the ass smelling gear oil all over the ground. I stuff 2 shop rags in the rear (after the drive shaft has been removed) then use duck tape to wrap the shit out of the area to keep the gear oil spilling to min. Then once out of the car I dump the tranny.

You are correct just tilt it a lot and make sure you have some help.....this is the way I prefer to do it and have done it close to a dozen times.

Removing and installing the tranny is such a pain without pulling them together that to me its just easier to do it all together.

Also make sure you drain the tranny or it will go everywhere.

well I sure wish I had friends that would help me, but there all Honda guys ( lame asses ) and they never help me. I don't know if you remove your engines by yourself, but I do it alone. I also have taken my automatic and manual transmissions out by myself as well, though it's not exactly safe, and it would be great to have the extra help, I still do it by myself, does anyone else have this inconvience, all I know I know is, it does not take me to long to do it.

doing it by yourself isnt that hard... just be patient. i've pulled a DSM tranny by myself 4 or 5 times... haha...

and why wouldnt you drain the transmission fluid BEFORE you pull the engine and trans???? honestly.... drain all of the fluids. oil, coolant, trans... and make sure you get the drain on the block under the exhaust manifold on the rear portion of the block.

why are you pulling it anyways?

I put my 7m in all by myself pulling it was easy too.

just make sure you got your front end high enough to clear when you tilt the motor/trans up to clear the rad support and firewall.

The reason why I am pulling the motor and transmission is I need to make sure everything has been assembled correctly. When I traded my '87 supra for this one I heard the wheels rear end and transmission were just thrown up there. Well guess what? I pulled the rear wheels off ( Supra TT ) wheels, and then pulled the center caps off and 2 lug nuts were missing, okay well that's fine... I'll get new lugs, then I started to take the lugs off and they were not but maybe torqued down to 10 ft-lbs, or much less. My rear differential was coated in oil... So I wanted to pull that because I had a spare good looking 3.73 LSD one that I got with the the car. The rear bolts came off good, and they take a little more effort then I gave, and note: [ I am not that strong at all, I just know how to use tools correctly ] so I also posted the r-154 transmission drive shaft problem -check that thread please to see- so after having everything like it was, I now want to check everything so I don't want to have, nor create any problem that end up spending huge amounts of money.

hell your doing yourself right by doing that. making sure your ride don't fall apart, also a good time to get engine trans servicing done while its out. seals, clutch and such. its simple pull a motor, remember to pull the harness with it so you don't have to screw with plugging crap back in just to the ecu.

My harness, well I do not have to worry about that, because it is currently being shipped to me from japan. I just ordered a brand new wiring harness from Toyota, and its the last or one of the last wiring harnesses for a '92 out there. Also all the sale and gaskets can now be replaced, so I am pretty pumped. Theoror has not run for about a year though, but when I got the car; which I traded it about 3 weeks ago I have been turnngit over by hand a little, and I might add a little oil to each cylinder so it helps the rings, I hope its a good idea and I don't see this hurting anything in the combustion chamber

i have pulled and installed my motor by myself about 4 times now. it really isn't that hard. just jack up the back of the car high as possible so you have as all the clearence you can get.

i have pulled and installed the tranny by itself like 3 times while in car. definatly more of a bitch.

unplug harness behind the glove box. really easy.

Today will be the day I begin the process. I will definitely be making sure to use everything that has been said, because all your past experices will always be worth a lot to me. Iv pulled these motors now about 8-10 times, just the motor.. it's not bad I just hope everything goes correctly.

Now if I may ask.. only the rear end has to be lifted and leave the front down or? Alright guys.. thanks!

off subject a bit, I remember doing a W58 on a mk2 and man that was mucho bitch, always pull motor and trans together. hell I think of it like this, its like when they service a Ferrari the pull the whole thing. so why not do the same. much easier doing it then trying to say line up the input shaft to the pilot bearing and get pissed cause it don't go in the hole. moly lube dammit!

sorry I just woke up.... :icon_bigg

I will be using a chain fall. The cherry picker like most of you have on here ( nice but, I don't want that thing laying around ) would be great. But I use the chain fall and a engine leveler. So we'll see what happens, i will have pictures up of everything.

you NEED cherry picker. you have to be able to move the engine back as you go up. or maybe move the car itself back as you go up with your chain hoist. there is no way you can do it by yourself with what you have. i barrow one from my buddy that owns a shop in town. i wouldn't trust some cheap ass one. hope this info helps before you get into a shitty situation.
