wheel / tire width for 17" rears

getting some things ready to hopefully go up to willow springs on the 21st, and one thing i have to figure out is a second set of rears. i want to go with 5zigen FN01r-c 17"s, but i'm unsure what to do as far as offset / width. I'm thinking to run 225s on them (so i dont have so much traction and cause myself understeer issues), so would i want to run something like 7.5" or 8" wide? and what offset is appropriate on the rear at whatever width that would be? i've been trying to figure it out, and searching, but have had no luck so far.

I've got the stock MKIV TT wheels on my car, they are 9.5" wide. If I had a choice I wouldn't go any skinnier than that. Personally when I get custom rims they will be 10.5"+.

I believe the offset on those is +37 and it looks good but I will probably be looking a +25-35 offset in the future with the wider wheels.

well i think i would like to stick with 225/45zr17 tires on 8" rims at this point since 225s will be cheaper for drift, and i can stuff 245s on those same rims if i am so inclined, and if nothing else use them as fronts in a grip setup. does anyone know what offset will be appropriate on the mk3 rear with an 8" wide rim? intuitively i'm going to guess around +30 or +35 but i'm open to suggestions.

for 17X8, i say 35 (what I have). I'm sure you could fit 32 with no rub (in rear) but then other factors (tire width, aspect ratio, car height, etc) start to come into play.

I run 17x8 w/ 245/45/17 on dropped car with no rub front or rear. I have a little room in the rear to go more positive, but not much without rolling fenders. There is plenty more room to move inside, but that is not what you were asking...
