so, i just got a set of some old school toyota 16" wheels and all go on fine except for the front right. the inner wheel rubs over the top of the brake caliper. i know its not the wheel thats bad because i've tried it with all the other wheels, and they go on fine with the front left and both rears. what could be the problem?

-thanks in advance.

could get the rims/caliper machined down some or maybe get a small spacer if its just rubbing at that one part and the inner side of the rim widens up some after that point

why is it only the front right side? on the other three sides the wheels fit fine. i dont want to spent any money on these wheels just to get them on.

If you are going to machine anything, machine the caliper. Not much, just a slight shave to get some clearance. I personally have no idea why it would only rub with that particular wheel. Are you sure the wheel is straight?

ahem...

I'll comment here. As your brake pads wear, the caliper will gradually move in since it's a sliding assembly. Brakes don't always wear evenly around the car, so more than likely that's the case...

do a brake job on all four and I bet it hits on both fronts and maybe the back (back calipers are smaller)

15 minutes with a grinder and your problem will be solved.

Only until you put new pads on the other wheels. (EDITED.... brain was in reverse. :p )

Have you checked to see if any of your brake assemblys bent/warped?

I find it odd that its only rubbing on that side. I dont think the caliper would float to the outside of the car if the pads were worn unevenly either.

I agree with Boris on the spacers for a cheap fix.

they float to the inside (piston on the inside, pulls the caliper toward the vehicle to brake)

if he has a stuck slide or soemthing it will effect pad wear and if he had brand new brake pads I bet he'd hit on both sides...

also, the wheels stick out a couple milimeters on the front already, spacers would would make it look way off. it looks like i may not be able to use these wheels...
