I know what I don't know. How bout you? While I applaud your use of metrology the data gathered is worthless if you don't undertand what it means.

I did enlighten you...in my first reply. I'll just say this: Not only are you worried about nothing but that Scamsoil is way too thick for your engine, even in summer. And I sure hope you aren't running it year round in a place like Joisey. But hey, don't listen to me, edjumacate thyself. I assure you there is plenty of correct info to be found on the net. I've posted a lot of it here myself. In spite of what most people think choosing the right oil isn't magic or opinion. It's science, just like everything else. Pretty old science at that.

IJ: Aunt Jemima's is the best maple syrup to use and some guys still change it at 3K. And I gave up on that site when they started using vegemite as grease ;)

Joel: Can't blame you. Dealing with Porter is enough to drive anyone to drink ;)

i'll surely let you know over the summer, when i get my aftermarket gauges installed. (one of which will be oil temp)

for reference sake, i'm running an 11x8 B&M supercooler, and a B&M 180* thermostat, along with a filter relocation kit. :)

Well then you wouldn't see anything much above 180* now would you? LOL.

I need to get an oil cooler setup as well and it is on my list of near future upgrades, but I don't know if I will go with a 180* thermostat, seems kind of low.

Anyway, I'll be sure to remind you during the summer if you havn't posted your findings yet Shaeff :)

sorry to hijack but when i was at the "local speedshop" (this is the one that caters only to the v8's chev/ford) i was looking for a oilcooler. I come across a B&M oilcooler with a small thermofan attached to the back/front of it. Has a nice pricetag to go with it (around AUD$500+) Has anyone used/know of this cooler? I was looking at getting a B&M core and using a spare small thermofan (the ones on the left side of the radiators mounted on top of eachother) to run behind the cooler.

thanks for that, one other question.
whats the difference between a oil cooler and a tranny cooler. I know tranny fluid is a thin oil but i see there are different designs for each. Is it something to do with dissapation of heat?

I've used B&M coolers for several things. Stacked plate type. Good coolers. Most of the tranny ones will have a thermostat and different fittings. I'd use one for engine oil. The fan isn't needed unless you can't get airflow to it.

Colin: He'd never see anything *below* 180. A t-stat can't cool the fluid, only keep it from going below the t-stat's rating. Above it's rating it'll just be fully open. Their purpose is only for quicker warm up. It's no different than the t-stat for coolant and is why I'm often amused by people who put lower degree t-sats in their cooling systems ;)

Well, relating it to how the water cooling system works from my own experience in my own car; I don't see much (10*C at the very high end) over the thermostat temp ever, thats where I pulled my conclusion from.

I understand what you're saying though JJ. :)
