Whats your oil temp/pressure?

So, for the 1st time this year its above 70* outside so I went out for a bit of a cruise for like 30 minutes. Now this being the 1st summer I will have my oil temp and pressure guages together I have a feeling I will learn some interesting things about how our motor and oil work as temps climb. And I'm kind of shocked at how hot it really runs to be honest; 4th + 5th gear at 2000-3500 RPM most of the time not even one WOT pass and oil temps were running at 105-107*C by the time I got home. Even more alarming was the drop in oil pressure it seemed like kicked in after 90-95*C.

Now I'm running Amsoil 20W-50, and when I got home I was looking at about 46psi of oil pressure at 3k RPM which is still within spec of course but the temps are slightly worrying since its not really very hot today.

So if any of you have guages to monitor oil pressure and temp post up what you find!

Think of what something like a 10W-30 would be like...

So am I the only one with these guages? (I do realize that the thread has only been alive 2 hours though :))

I ran a temp gauge in my 240z way back and the Oil used to pretty well mimic the water temp Colin! (not as hot but it followed any rise or drop)

Time for a bigger/better cooler!

I notice with my synthetic there is a definite changeover point where the viscosity index improver kicks in and does it's thing! (not sure if maybe it's the opening temp for the Oil Cooler T Stat being reached but this is after 15 minutes driving so I imagine it's already open by this time)

Cruising along steady state oil pressure at 55 psi it hits this point and rises to 71 psi with no other change.

Lol, good one. Is there anyone else here who knows about oil? Anyone? Bueller? ;)

Can you get on SF? "GrandLordKhorne" did a really good write up on different oils and how they preformed in different conditions.
Here is a link if you can view it. Oil test

70 Fehrenhiet? That's like winter in Iraq..I think tempratures are 100F+in summer here...Those are the days when you really see the exhaust manifold & the exhaust side of the turbo-charged cars gets reeeeed lol

I know, its pathetic how little of an expert I am on oils. I have yet to find something that goes really in depth though so please enlighten me JJ. You seem to think you know so much, but apparently its some big secret and you can't help anyone else?

And yes, its Jersey, there is barely such a thing as summer and I seriously can not stand the cold; so as fast as possible I'll be moving to a warmer climate, lol.

BTW, thanks IJ for your temp input. I guess I'm all alone in this other wise huh...

Colin: Not many people will be running a temp gauge for Oil so info may be a little thin.

There was a period of time when I totally lost my mind and installed temp senders in just about every place I could think of but once I'd used it this way for some time and noticed a trend I didn't bother again! ;)

JJ: Was hammered during a big Oil based discussion so I can understand his reluctance to pull the gloves back on anytime soon!

PM him if you have questions he's a wealth of knowledge on the subject and will happily answer one on one!

Kind of interesting no one runs one (well aside from you and the frantic temp monitoring, LOL) since it would seem to me like its probably one of the most important guages I have. Water just remains the same as long as the coolant system is working OK and its great to tell if its not but oil temp really tells me whats going on and how hot my motor really if running. I guess thats just my opinion though, haha.

PM sent JJ!
