IJ: exactly how inaccurate is the stock speedo over 100MPH? just curious.

It is required to be plus or minus 7% in the US.

lol. come on now. why would i make it up? it was pretty much a brand new car i bought it with on 50k original miles. i got it up to that over about a five mile strech on I95. and ive actually gotten my current one thats an 88 n/a auto stock around 130.

Because 200 horsepower won't push that much weight against that much resistance to that speed. And you are already past redline, if memory serves me right.

So your 200 crank hp 3500+lb car will pull almost 7000 rpm in 5th gear..... yeah ok sure it did! :nono:

Car and Driver could only get their test car to 131mph so maybe yours was magic...... (thanks Nick)

Toyota said the car would only do about 130. It just doesn't have the power to do more. I love these threads. Quite a few people are full of crap. By the way, if you punch 15.8@88 in the quarter mile calculator, you come up with about 200 horsepower.

When I got one of my W58 7MGE Supras to hit about 130, that was 5800 RPM on the tach. Power drops after that point.

Highway? 90ish.

I have hit well over 160mph on the airstrip here on post...

my garmin says its' top speed has been 395mph. it must have been in my pocket when i was bass fishing or maybe i was in a fast paced church:dunno:

My ex and I tested my black mk2 with a GPS some months back on a trip to Oregon. We wanted to see how accurate/innacurate the speedometer is, since everyone claims that the speedos in the mk2s go way off at high speeds.

We got up to 121mph (per the GPS) on a straight road before we had to slow down, and my speedometer read 120. Still plenty of rpm left to go too, so for whatever reason, my cars speedo was pretty darn accurate to within 1-3mph at all speeds

Mine is currently 10 Kph out as I haven't changed the gears in the correction box after swapping the 4.11:1's to the 3.5:1 gears

It's because on a regular basis,
Random satellites will move intermittently and if you're moving at just the right speed, at just the right time, a minimum of 4 satellites will pick up your GPS and via your GPS, will show a ridiculously high MPH.....
Mainly because the Satellites think YOU'RE moving that quick, when it's actually the Satellites themselves.

That said, Mine has said 391mph before.........But I don't think it was the satellite's speed...

140...GPS Cert. Racing an M5 on a closed course obviously. Haha. I hit a new patch of highway, I mean track, and it just wouldn't recover. So I let out. Mods were...V8 mod, Mustang Body Kit, and the mods in my sig except for the Tokicos I think haha.

In my buddies C5 Z06 we accomplished 189 with GPS cert, it felt like we were riding on glass, seriously. It was smooth. Car was definitely not stock though. That is the fastest I have ever been on the freeway.

Nooo bro I was racing a g35 w/ a turbo or twin turbo and he said at 150 i started to pull from him more n more... My speedo said i was doing 115 8/ not exactly the right calibration there... My gears aren't stock tho so that plays a big part.. 5th gear would probably not go anywhere

Oh and my rear tire size at the time was 255-45/17. And I was at like 5000 in my fifth gear I think. Wasn't paying attention.

Buddies Z06 was 325 or 335 can't remember. His was freaking crazy RPM range, close to redline. Around 6800 I believe.
