they are for people with some disease... its called acromegaly.
basically, its a hormonal disorder where the brain wont stop producing growth hormones. causes enlargement of hands, feet, face etc... therefore certain people need huge shoes.

Unfortunately, it only affects bone growth. Further, it only affects bones where they aren't covered with growth plates already. Not fun to deal with, either, a buddy of mine has it.
