Whats up with my gas tank?

So iirc, I read that the supras have 18.8 gallon tanks right? Well when my gauge hits zero and I go to pump it up, it only takes like 12 gallons to fill it up. I thought it must be a problem with the pump so one time I just tried forcing more gas into it. lol bad idea...

Anyways whats the deal here? Bad sensor or something? Or is 18.8 gallons wrong?

I actually think it's an 18 gallon tank, but we only use 16 of those gallons.

Yeah due to its design we can only fill up 16 gallons. Don't even think about topping off, that shit will spill out.

it is 18.5 gallons, but when it says empty, it still has many gallons left in it. maybe 2.5 gallons when the light first come on.

dont worry about your problem; if your tank holds gas, your'e fine. :]

i run till the light goes on before i fill up and i seem to Always put 14-14.5 gallons in. i never try to top off, just pump until the pump kicks off.

i can't tell if your serious, but yes, there is a small rectangular light that glows a soft orange when the tank is "empty". FYI i have an '88.

i was used to filling up my parents GM cars under permit, always topped off like a 1/2 gallon.

First time I filled um the Supe, put in just over a tenth extra, and spent 20 minutes using the miniature paper towels @ the pump to soak up all the gas that was in the pipe but above the flap. Grrr... That was ridiculously embarassing.

My grandpa did that when he first got his Lexus, too.

Yeah, thats about what I get too. I generally get about 240-50 miles a tank. I have *almost* all my fill ups recorded in a spreadsheet,with odo, trip, gals, etc. How sad is that? Lol.

I have an 87 and I have that light too, but its really hard to see even at night, you really cant see it at all in the daytime.
