I am really tired of having loud exhaust (especially when it catches the police attention.). I was wonder what is the max whp that our stock supra exhaust system can handle? I know they are somewhat restricted from all the search but I HAVE search and do not see the answer to what I am asking. Also I do not know if this helps but I have a turbo 7M on a non turbo supra so maybe the exhaust too is different?

Sorry if its a newbie question.

What exhaust are you running now?

There's alot better options to reduce the noise of your car than putting a stock exhaust back on. Somewhat restrictive? You'll hurt your power all over the RPM range so much.

Do you have any resonators in your catback? Are you running a cat?

If not, you could add one or both. Also a silencer in the tip if you wanna quiet the system down but still have the option for full flow when you want.

IMO, it would simply not be worth it in any shape or form to put the stock exhaust back on just to reduce noise. You can have a great flowing exhaust that is not obnoxious at the same time.

You might look into purchasing some of the quieter exhaust options for the Supra. HKS sport or Dragger, or the Tanabe. All are alot quieter than the alternatives like HKS hipower or Blitz NUR or any of those and still give you the benefit of a good flowing exhaust.

^ Just as Joe said. Stock exhaust is worth no more than 200/230hp.

Dang 200whp. that sucks. My friends 04 Honda SI can put an extra 130whp on their stock exhaust. I guess old car will be old cars hehe. I might just search for someone selling their used after market turbo back or something.

You're having noise problems with a STOCK echaust?

Are you sure you don't have a huge exhaust leak or something?

A stock exhaust should not be loud at all.

It's not that you couldn't make more power with the stock exhaust if you really wanted to but you're really doing yourself a disservice if you tried and it wouldn't make any sense at all to try to make any significant power with a stock exhaust.

Even a car running stock boost and stock everything else will benefit greatly from a full 3in exhaust..

The max potential is "awesome".

Seriously, with a downpipe and no cat, it sounds FABULOUS! On the downside, it's terribly restrictive and homosexual. Which is why I have it....

I mean....

uhh....

I'll be rid of it soon, leave me alone!

Oh no no. I just want some more power but do not want to get attention due to a loud after market exhaust. So I am trying to see the max safe power I can get into the stock exhaust.

You can have quiet and more power but if you don't have the skill set and equipment to do the fabrication yourself it's going to be damn expensive :(

Mine is under 88Db and 500+rwhp.

If power is on your mind at all, you need to upgrade the exhaust.

Tanabe Hyper Medallion or HKS sport exhaust are going to be what you want.

Yes, a friend in town here (Tobycat) has the HKS Super Drager. Its almost silent unless he's at redline, then it makes a little bit of noise.

Would he be interested in taking it and having a Db test done on it at an exhaust shop?

The secret is big mufflers. I am not talking big stupid polished SS cannon mufflers, but nice big rectangular mufflers under the car made by reputable manufacturers. Get one that is the biggest you can fit under the car, with nice big inlet and outlets.
I have had plenty of modified cars that had a nice mild note at idle and cruising, and only really got louud at high rpms/load.

Regards, Andrew.
