Mind you, I gave up on the LEX afm a couple years ago... To get around FCO my correction percentages were always sub -10%.. there's a lot to consider concerning ignition timing advance with negative correction... it hindsight, I'd just go VPC.

Why do you have to have an AFM out there -- because of visual on emissions?

Nah, I smogged mine in Vegas...that's where I had my vehicles registered. I've got a buddy in Ventura that found a smog shop that'd overlook visual most likely...he overlooked his Intake manifold, Long Tube Headers, etc on his R/T....lol.

Good Idea, except that it has to be plugged in to pass, I guess you mean, unplug it when I leave the shop.

Make a jumper pigtail from a wrecker -- plug the pigtail into the AFM, and secure the other end out of the way....leave harness unplugged....looks like the AFM is plugged in, and you'll pass visual. :bigthumb: There's no OBD scan for our cars, so all they can do is visual and sniffer/rollers.

funny you should say that, I did that for fuel presure regulator so it looks plug in, It's plugged off but leads to no where.

Scale back the Hz correction with a piggy back, up the FP, and you'll never see FCO. :)

cant scaling back the hz correction be hazardous if you dont know what your doing?

Guys, remember that scaling the AFM has effects on the timing tables too. An AFC (or similar piggyback) is good for moderate horsepower increases. When you're getting up toward 20psi, it's time to look into a standalone, etc.

I'm not saying it can't be done, it has, and successfully as well. Eric Varah's 600+ RWHP on an AFC/Lexus setup comes to mind, but the margins for error are VERY slim. Things can and do go wrong when you push it to those limits.

The next commentary is that most people who try to "push it" like this are doing it for financial reasons. The cost of a standalone and tuning is the excuse used for not spending all that money. But if you can't afford the costs of doing it right in the first place, you probably can't afford the costs of your motor doing it's best impression of a shrapnel grenade.

The old cliche "pay me now, or pay me later" comes to mind.

Also, if you're scaling the AFM signal you should consider using racegas at a lower boost level than you would for a car on a standalone which has timing control.

I run 20 psi on my boss turbo, but I have 660 injectors, lex afm, afpr, safr, walbro, and all the other mods to go with it. It's been fun so far and I've turned it up to 23psi before but with race gas!! I have like 5 dyno's right around the corner from me though.

Why didn't you go MAFT-Pro? Especially with the turbo you were running.

MKIIItech.com quoted 600 hp with tuning. Boost doesn't tell the whole story. Tuning as SC mentioned is absolutely needed.

Eric Varah, the car I was mentioning is the car referenced on MKIITech.

Eric put a lot of hard work, tons of money, and a lot of heartache into that car. (I know, Will Neely and I helped him build it... Eric's wife Kelly really started to hate us and our 2am - 3am engine building sessions...)
