Yes really.....

My NA was in good condition and well tuned and wouldn't go much faster than 125 GPS verified without a slight downhill or a tailwind.

Can't remember the exact figure but above 100mph your HP needs to increase by a HUGE % to overcome the air resistance and it increases non linear. (I think squared but I'd need to check)
<edit> Cubed

i'd never seen that particular equation before. I always operated under the assumption that, roughly, doubling your speed required quadruple the horsepower. Guess you learn something every day.

I reached 140mph with a GTE w/ -10* timing (first got my mkiii running like 7-8 years ago, tps was bad and didn't know it when I set the timing). The car trapped 86mph, similar to a NA car I would assume. Fixing the timing the car trapped 91mph and was much faster at reaching the 140-150mph range, haha.

I wonder if its more of the gearing then the power. The 430 might be putting the car above its peak power on those top end speeds (where is peak power on a GE? I assume ~6k? whats the 147 figure at? 6500?)

My NA was up to 122 indicated and still accelerating, but I wimped out.
And as far as HP requirements- not sure IJ, but I know that parasitic drag quadruples with a doubling of velocity- at least in aircraft, so I'm sure it's true w/ any vehichle hitting the wind. That's why you can do 120mph in a 100hp airplane, and need closer to 400hp to do 200mph.

had an n/a bored .040" and intake and exhuast, speedo said 150 and tach said 6200. i know it wasnt 150mph because at 55 my speedo would be showing 65. im not sure if it gets more off with the higher the speed. it seemed to take forever to get from where the speedo said 130 to 150. i did take time to take a pic with my cellphone. i still have that phone some where around the house, just dont know how to get the pic off of it. i haven't used that phone in years.

I have a 89 turbo with an 89 N/A LSD 4.3, and i run out @ 150MPH. The engine has more to give, but im at redline at that speed, so i have to stick with what i can get less i swap out the diff, which i wont be doing any time soon. :icon_bigg

My lil 4 cylinder Toyota can almost do that too. (105 so far) Awwww, so cute. :biglaugh:

Edit: Mine is also stock, wait! I have one upgrade and it is the cabin air filter, does that count? :D

well, atleast you can hit the 100 mark. i also drive a 2000 chevy s10 4 banger. so unless im going down a very steep hill i cant get past 97 MPH. at that spead my fuel cuts. :nono:

Don't think it's so much "hate" as it is people being realists

An NA Supra is neither quick nor fast 200hp at the crank and a 3500+ Lb car is never going to be either anyone that thinks differently is just deluding themselves.

Had my N/A dyno'd last year in Indy, came at 181 rwhp. Stock intake and exhaust. Some engine work. On the highway, cops around here are jerks and don't dare go 5 over. Have had it at 120 mph and engine had more to give. Not sure on the RPMs. If I can get more air in and out, I am sure I can get very close to 200 hp. Just waiting to get a 1jz. :naughty:

all i know is my N/A beat about 4 diferent mustang 5.0 fox bodies. one being a 95 newer body, kept up with it off the line but passed it top speed wise. Is that uncommon? mind you the timing is set a few over what stock recommends, maybe thats why i'm getting about 12 miles to the gallon? lol.

I just find that hard to believe. Mine was na, w58, 4.30, and kn fipk.

I think a z24 cavilier woulda spanked me. But put 8psi on top the pistons:love:

Not sure the specs on the 5litre, but I would imagine cose to 300hp and lighter I bet.

i think the newer body style only had 215hp and the fox body had like 225 iirc. but their torque probably would pull an n/a mkiii with ease.

It's all relative. A n/a Mk3 is still faster than a Mk2; and my Mk2 was considered fast in its day. It tops out just above 112mph, and it feels moderately unstable at that speed. I've spiked 140 in my turbo 87 and slowed back down right away, even though it had lots left in it.
