Whats the difference between

88 7mgte, stock ct26 on 8lbs, 80k miles


when i go over 3500-4000 rpms my coolant temp gauge drops to 0 and it runs poorly when in boost (over 4000rpms). my most likely suspect is the coolant temperature sensor. On the thermostat housing, I see there are two different (what appear to be) temperature sensors.

I tried alldata, but it wasn't really any help. What is the difference between those two sensors?

The top is the ECU Temp sensor and the bottom is the GAUGE Temp sensor. If you search the site there is a diagram listing what all the coolant housing sensors are.

thats what i suspected since the top one was a 2 wire and the bottom is only a 1 wire. thanks for that info!!
