Now that must be a real speed machine!

Fuel here is much cheaper than you guys pay so there's really no reason to import a 2 litre Supra.

Our car makers still make 5 and 6 litre motors.

Might have to take it for a spin see how it compairs to the old 7M turbo, I don't see the point either, bit like making a corvette with a 200hp engine.

Grim, I just want to point out that you are wrong. :)

In fact, not all GA70's are narrowbody. Widebody became optional on later years.

For Japan:

No 86 MK3's were widebody in Japan.

No 87-88 GA70's were widebody in Japan.

Starting in mid-87 (1/87) the MA70 GT Limited was introduced, it was widebody, all other MA70's were still narrowbody.

Starting in 89, all MA70's were widebody, and the GA70 had the widebody option (not sure which model(s) had it).

After 1990, the MA70 was dropped and the JZA70 was introduced, which was only available as widebody.

The GA70 is listed as narrowbody optional until the A70 ceased production in 1993.

As far as Australia goes, there were never any Aus-delivered narrowbody cars, there may be Japan-imported ones maybe?

North America, Europe, and Australia never got narrowbody cars, Japan, New Zealand (and probably some other Asian countries) did.
uhoh, now we got jeff started.. I really think you need that license plate OEMJEFF lol!

I hate it when Jeff starts pulling out the FACTS.

As usual, I'll take his word for it. :)

I've seen several narrowbody versions here in Canada - all of which were imported with already swapped 1J engines, actually.

86.5 was the first of the Mk3's (introduced half way through the year)
Obviously not, have a look at the compliance plate pic i just posted up. JANUARY 1986 not JUNE 1986.

While it is true that the MK3 Supra production started in January 1986, it is a 1986.5 model year, because there was a 1986 Supra already being produced when the MK3 was brought in. Model years and Calendar Years do not usually match up.

The 1986 model year started in August 1985, which means the 1986 Supra (A6x) was made for 5 months, in 1985, and the 1986.5 Supra (A70) was made for 7 months, in 1986, after that in 1986, they were 1987 models.

Of course this is different in Japan (what isn't? haha), as they call the car by it's Calendar year, so a "1987 Supra" could actually be a "1988" model, but they use the calendar year, even though model updates are still done at the same time.

Curious note: The MK3 production for the Japanese market started in Feburary 1986, not January like for the rest of the world. Also, prior to the MK3, the Supra was called the Celica XX in Japan, so technically, the MK3, is the MK1 in Japan, so there would be no need to call it the 86.5 in Japan, ever.

Yay!

Well i found out today there are a few narrow body MA70's in Australia, but they are imports.

So it appears all exported MA70's were widebody and only jap spec pre-updated MA70's were narrowbody. :)

You know what else is gay, quoting yourself and having that quote not exactly apply to what the conversation is anymore. Nah, I'm just kidding IJ, but yeah, read my previous post for all the information on the years.

Mofo's post was referring to Japan-delivered, Aus-imported narrowbody MA70's in his last post, which I'm sure there are some in Aus (unless I don't know enough about Aus import laws ;))
