I have my ct26 with a 60-1 trim, lexus Afm, Fuel pump, Boost controller, Safc2, and will get injectors soon. I have spoken to a few people about it but none gave me a "real" answer. Should I go stand alone or should I go piggyback. I have the money to go standalone but is it smog leagal. I have other supporting mods and I am currently going forged internals. If I go piggyback I have no control over timing correct. But I might be able to get away with being smog legal. If I go standalone, I will probably not pass smog correct? Is the benefit worth the cons of standalone? Will I get much more power and reliability through a standalone. How about tunning? which one is easier to tune. Ive use the search button but didnt find an answer. Maybe I missed it. Feel free to chime in. Any other help as far as the build goes would help to. My build thread is somewhere on here.

i fail to see how a standalone makes you non compliant for emmisions
Thats why I made this thread to find out if it did or didnt. From your reply, I guess it doesnt. Thanks for that answer.

Where are you located?

And yes, it makes you non-complaint for most emissions tests.

EDIT:
7. Engine management systems An engine management system enables the engine to function with minimum emissions under a wide range of operating conditions. It also uses a variety of sensors to optimise combustion by altering how the engine operates, thus maximising fuel economy, engine power and engine life. A system that is not designed specifically for the engine it is fitted to is likely to increase emissions, reduce engine power, have poor fuel economy and reduce the life of the engine. Non-original electronic chips or computers, whetherfitted as a direct replacement or in a ‘piggy-back’ configuration, are not permitted to be used in an engine management system unless it can be demonstrated that their installation and use allows the vehicle to meet the appropriate ADR. They must also be sealed or otherwise constructed so as not to be reprogrammable

Shut me up. What about power increase? Substantial or marginal. Location Lynwood CA

The section I posted is related to Australian Emissions. I have to keep digging through all my files to find the CA Emissions standard that dictates ECU replacement.
Easiest was to put it for CA emissions is:
If it is part of the emissions control system (which the ECU is) modification is going to be illegal.

You'll see the most substantial power gains by switching to a full standalone.

seems like you're torn between the two options. So I'll recommend the MAFT Pro.. Has the best of both worlds, its virtually a piggy back, w/ ALOT of the benifits of a stand alone. The Support for the MAFT pro is stellar, and new options and upgrades are comming out all the time from the Community there. And you made a comment about timing control. the maft pro allows that. I assume since you are even contemplating a stand alone you understand that tuning can get complex and intricate, the same can be said about the MAFT pro, this isn't an SAFC, requires a little more IQ power to play w/. But IMO a GREAT option, I've been running it for some time now, and I love it.

Here are two links, the first is just the maft pro website, give you a general over view of the product

http://www.maftpro.com/

this is a link to the fullthrottletech- forums. which is the community around the MAFT system. GREAT reads in there, also scroll down to the supra specific forum for the goodies.

Why are you quoting ADR's?
