Recently i pick up a clean 89 na supra and i wanted to go the turbo route. But my question is how much will you end up spending on doing the whole cross over to a 7mgte 5spd? My other question is am i better off just selling what i have and buy a car that already comes with a 7mgte thats 5spd? Not to mention i go to wrecking yards alot and see a bunch of 7mgtes maybe getting 1 and doing a rebuild?

You could do that But u still have a open diff and a weaker transmission

Changing the diff is an EASY, EASY task. Should only cost ~250 at most for a used one. ~900 for a brand new one to thrash on.

w58 should be fine up to ~300RWHP, if you want more than that you should start with a turbo car and save yourself the trouble.

not all n/a's have an open diff. ive seen 450rwhp on w58 and it be fine and ive seen 300rwhp destroy a r154. i know the w58 is weaker but the maintenance and care of the tranny have a lot to do with it.

Sell it and get a factory turbo. Just my opinion, but im lazy lol.
U need the
Engine
Transmission
Rear differential(lsd)
Drive shaft
Innercooler
Ecu
Harness
What else am i missin.......
Now if u can find a full wrecked turbo to do the whole swap for cheap, go for it.

Off the top of my head........AFM, igniter, boost gauge, intercooler piping.

My opinion. Drive it as an N/A. Buy a 7mGTE and rebuild it before putting it in. Don't get in any hurry to finish it. Do your homework, build it right, and swap it in when you have everything ready to go. Then do the swap, and you will by that time have learned a good deal about the car along the way for future use.

If you don't have those kinda patience, sell and buy a running turbo car.
