Dont really want either of those things, thanks :D

I had given serious thought to becoming a sous chef of some sort, but i dont fancy running my own place...too much responsibility and too many assets riding on it!

One thing i'm going to do is complete my SIA certification so i can become a security guard - £9 to £12 an hour that way :)

I come from a land down under
I only suggested investing in a place as a route to financial security down the track something that may never happen working for a boss ;)

Pass on the Security guard thing it's just not worth being hurt/killed protecting someone elses crap (these days violence is the easy option)

buy a house. use half the money for a down payment and the other half to support the mortgage payment. it should hold you over until your next installment.

with that much money down, your interest should be very low. just make sure you leave yourself enough to make all the payments for the 2 years.

Kai already said that he can't get a mortgage due to his inheritance not being considered "income."

Kai, are there not alternative (non-bank) lenders that you could speak to about getting a mortgage?

Other than banks and building societies - the only mortgage lenders are rather dodgy looking mortgage companies that effectively wait for you to make even the tiniest of mistakes so they can reposess your home.

They advertise on the TV all the time - and they sucker you in with low rate deals for the first year or so before they jack the interest rates up and impose all sorts of daft conditions. Banks and building societies are at least regulated.

I dont have to choose HSBC for a mortgage either, should i wish to have one - i could use HSBC, NatWest, Lloyds TSB, Barclays, Halifax, Abbey National, Cheltenham & Gloucester, Alliance & Leicester, Northern Rock - plenty to choose from :)
