I come from a land down under
I'm the last person to be a "Leave it stock Nazi" the only part on my car that's stock is the Diff and that's next on the list!

But at least try and understand what it is what it does and then have a good reason to remove it!

As JJ's pointed out the more a car is hacked up the harder it is to diagnose/repair!

It's not like VSV's are classified information here... There's a bunch of threads about them.

I have neither VSV, no resistors and no codes...

The CA spec EGR had another sensor (temp I think) the rest of the US cars didn't have IIRC, which might be the source of your code if they had that same thing in AU.

EDIT: oops, saw jetjock already mentioned this. And ROFL to the "helpful comment" bolded above.

RD: We didn't get the EGR crap here at all, our motor's are closer to JDM spec.

My bad, I'm still at work and tried as hell, and quickly missed that NDBoost isn't from AU, you are.... :) knew I saw AU in there somewhere!, and then I actaully read the second page where he says its CA car, so I think thats why NDboost got the code....

Both comments are good advice and not just about cars ;). Frankly, I'm surprised one of Porter's threads would generate so many posts. Usually this kind of stuff gets ignored and for good reason. RTFM sums it up very well.

It appears after further investigation the EGR i have has a EGR Temp sensor sticking out of the bottom of the EGR tube although the connector is hooked up i wonder if the vsv is causing some kind of issues with it?

Pulling the EGR VSV on a cali car will cause a code because the temp sensor is not hot enough. It expexts to see a hot temp when it is telling the VSV to be open.

If you want to pull the EGR VSV then unplug the EGR temp and drop a resistor in on the harness side. I do not remember what size off the top of my head.

What whopwood said. Cali cars will set a code 71 if the ecu looks at the temp sensor and find's it cold. Do as he said and connect a resistor across the harness.

Eh, what is this "forum addict" crap? Good thing I'm off to work soon ;)

As I mentioned in the other post a code can occur if you disconnect an output but the code would be based on a secondary effect, not from monitoring the output itself. The TCCS has no idea if your VSVs are connected or not but in the case of the egr it might complain about the temp sensor (if you have one) because removing the VSV disabled the egr system.
Toyota monitors temperature instead of a potentiometer on the valve, like some other manufacturers do.
