I come from a land down under
A chaser would be better as it doesn't remove material and only cleans out the holes.

If you do use a Tap yes a bottoming tap is needed and use a T Handle with some CRC as lube and clean the holes out after.

I ordered a bottom hole today. I plan on running it down the holes and then using a gun bore brush and solvant. Then vaccuming them out and running down there with a magnet.
I think that is the best that I can do w/o pulling the block.

You can coat the tap with grease that will help any chips/debris to stick to the tap (clean tap off between holes)

The T handle is important as it stops you loading one side of the tap and removing parent metal.

also helps to prevent one from snaping the tap LOL!

To the OP: if you feel some resistance against the tap back it 1/4 turn and then start again....snaping a tap inside a hole is pure shit and in most cases doesn't want to come out and the only things that are real good at getting them out is a wire edm or a carbide drill...so don't gorilla twist the tap lol.

Don't you mean "Sinker EDM"? ;)

I'm not in Australia....don't know what you call them...every place has own lingo...suppose sinker makes more sense...but everyone here calls milling machines bridgeports even if it isn't a Bridgeport...

Sinker would be the choice ofcourse with an engine block...would want to cut the block in half with a wire edm LOL!
