The Toyota manual says to use 91+ octane.
Personally I use 87 octane cause I get it for free, and my car runs just fine.

I have an N/A like ToyotaXtream has and I find the Mid grade gas works just fine. I have had good results with Amoco Silver grade. Just use a good brand name gas and I think you will be fine.

7MGE use nothing less then 87-89.

7MGTE use nothing less then 91+

Arizona doesnt really offer many gas stations with 93+ gas, most of them are 91 :(

87 and youll be fine. start adding forced induction or bumping compression and then you can get the higher gas. your just throwing your money away on it now.

I always stick to the highest grade I can get for my 87 turbo, which is sadly on 91 octane here in Cali...:nono:

Fucking sux man - I was driving around trying to find a station with 92 or 93, but none. Wasted a whole tank of gas. :icon_razz

You are semi correct on the manual; IIRC it says a (insert special octane research group here) rating of 91 BUT it says right after that, that the number on the pump should be no lower then 87.

On that note, I run 93 all the time, just because thats the highest I can get locally.

if he has an N/A, then there's no need to tell him what you put in your turbo. ;)

for an N/A, use 87 unless you've increased the compression somehow.

Yep...87 on the pump sign, per 1989 owners manual, pg. 110.
TURBO or N/A. It also says to use 91 if you want better performance.

I'm sure by that they mean less pinging during hard acceleration, so the timing won't be retarded by the ECU when the knock sensor picks it up.
