Amsoil 10w30 all the way on all 3 cars.

Corolla got treated with amsoil at 360,000km(225k)...1 year later the Amsoil came out with 387,000km(242k)...no filter change. The car currently has 392,000km(245k) and tomorrow I'm going to put the amsoil back in for another year. I'm hoping to get 25k of driving on the rolla this year and send out the oil for independant tests.

I know their oil is rated for 25k but do you guys know anyone who has personally done this? Just trying to figure out how many other nutballs there are out there? PS>>>No i would never leave this oil in my mk2/3 for 25k...

I thought our cars needed some sort of heavy weight oil to prevent rod knock, yet I notice a lot of you guys going with 10w30, which is what the manual calls for.

I'm due up for an oil change and am wondering about what weight to put it. I just have 10w30 Castrol GTX in there now.

common misconception, to prevent rod knock replace your oil at 3k miles or earlier :p the best thing you can do to a car is get frequent oil changes, ive owned 3 supras 2 over 250k miles and this one at 95k of course no i didnt own them all of this time but i made sure the previous owners had a good maintenance record

a general rule of thumb to find what weight oil to use is to use whatever gives you 10psi for every 1000rpm. this is a general rule for all cars, not supra specific. each car and each supra will be different depending on age and condition of motor. it can also change depending on your environment. a hot racetrack will probably require heavier oil than you would need for driving around town. ferrari uses 75psi at 6000rpm. our trsm just states 36-71psi at 3000rpm. personally i just use the lightest oil that gives me 70psi at 6000rpm.

as for rod knock, ive always assumed that typically occured due to oil starvation. check your oil level every time you fuel up and you should be fine. if you race, then maybe invest in a canton accusump.

Would castrol GTX 10w-30 be acceptible for our cars? I'm planning on doing an oil change tommorow and am at a loss over what to put in the damn thing. I'm so paranoid with this car.

FYI, my car has the original 7mgte in it with about 123,00 miles on it. I would assume it would be inadvisable to run a full synthetic. I have zero oil leaks but due to the engines age, aren't I at risk for making potentially leaky seals leak with the synthetic?

Not to jack this thread but Im about to repair what I believe is a spun rod due to low oil, when I fix all of this, I want maybe something that better coats and will make my oil pump happy. What do you guys suggest?

phoenix6: assuming you will replace the piston rings and your connecting rod. For break-in I suggest either exxon superflow 10W30 (Reg Reimer recommended this oil) or OEM Toyota 10W30 (I believe they're regular Mobil 10W30) After break-in I recommend either Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec.
P.S. I will be using this setup for my rebuild. HTH!

An interesting test on this website showed how Lucas oil can cause major foaming problems in oils: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm
