What is this, what does it do, and do I really need it?

Hey guys, just noticed while looking at other 7m-ge engine bays that I don't have this entire assembly..

I've also realized I'm missing the surge tank below the intake manifold, the VSV, and vacuum hoses associated with the part (guessing that's why my ACIS doesn't function normally).

Question is, what are those two things, and would they affect the performance (in a good way) of my car?

Haha, yes you need those...they are injection related.

I've put more than 6k miles on her since I've gotten her, and it hasn't had it the entire time..

Hmm, that's weird, I know there should be another one on the other fender, right? Do you have that one?

It's used with low impedance injectors. IIRC, 89+ have high impedance injectors.

except my car had the bolts for it in place, which is what tipped me off...
