my oil pressure is about 20psi at idle, and 55 at cruising speed, but on a cold morning on start up it will touch 90.

it depends on what oil you use also. summer i use 10w-30, winter i use 5w-30

the higher the weight the higher the pressure. and i use the stock oil pressure sending unit location.

With an aftermarket electric oil pressure gauge, my oil pressure at idle (cold) is about 80 psi. After the oil warms up it's as low as 65 psi (idle) Oil pressure can be above 100 psi depending on how high you RPM is. My oil sending unit is on the stock location.

how the hell is your oil pressure 65psi at idle when warm? when i start my car up, i hit about 90psi (6bar on my greddy electric gauge), but then i goes down to about 20psi (1.4bar) when hot at idle. at cruise, i have just over 1bar per 1k of rpms, so 2k=2.2bar, 3k=3.3bar, etc.

when it runs really hot, like after a tuning session with a bunch of hard runs over and over, i'm around 1.1bar, but it quickly goes back up when the engine/oil cools.

I've ran a 1jz longer and put more miles on one engine with one type of oil to say that my oil weight is wrong. I've never had a failure do to oil. I did melt a piston on a moment of insanity, but never had lubrication problems. If 200,000 miles in two years dont prove it, what will?

For the record I've used eneos 0W 50 for over four years, on two different engines. I have recently started to sell the oil to my customers as I became a dealer. All those other years I payed retail for it and worth every drop.

Im not saying everyone is wrong, but there is no right or wrong when it comes to how the engine is protected (oil wise). Only you know how hard you beat on it. My engines live at high RPM all the time, clutch dumps, burn outs, drifts, high speed runs (150+) and it lasted that long. My first engine drank over 65 gallons of 104 octane gas and over 85 gallons of c16 in two months. I had detonated a few times and it still lasted that long. I've ran the engine to its limits bellow 500 hp, daily driven every day. The 1jz is a stout engine.

id make sure that your oil pressure reading is accurate before making any changes. A plugged oil filter or even a stuck pressure relief valve could also cause an issue with high oil pressure

Sounds dead on to what reading i was getting on my old 1jzgte setup with an aftermarket oil press gauge. My sending unit was in the stock location as well. Only difference is i was using Castrol 20w/50

During the first startup i got over 90psi at idle with 10w30, when the oil got warm it got down to around 40-50psi. Think thats i really high, concider im used to 7M haha :)

ok instead of empircal evidence. Has anyone checked the TSRM for the 1jz and see what numbers Toyota comes up with?

Anyone? Bueller?

I assume its very similar to the 2jz, which the tsrm calls:

7.1psi or more at idle

47-84 psi @ 4000 rpms

60+ psi at idle and 100+ at cruise seems a tad excessive.

Yup it could just be the oil. I also checked the filter the first time and also check the valve, everything is 100% ok, or else how would they last for so long.:biglaugh:

on my 1g-gte i idled around 40 psi, cold start was around 85-90psi and constant throttle around 100-110 psi, i switched to a toyota filter and castrol oil and it was a different by 10psi more.
