Permatex The Right Stuff has served me well...don't use the cork gasket.

+1 for this stuff. It's worth the extra money.

the engine can go inter service immediatley and it has very strong adhesive properties. It is not easy to remove like RTV. It dries like a very dense rubber.

Like Jdub, it's served me well too.

do NOT use the cork gasket in any form in my opinion, even with FIPG... instead of just two sealing surfaces, (between block and pan) you'll have four. (block to gasket, gasket to block). you're actually doubling the amount of places where the FIPG must confirm and adhere to. In turn, this doubles the potential failure points.

closing this down,

TSRM says nothing about CORK anything. FIPG. So this poll is asking should I follow the TSRM or not............ and you know what they say about leading a horse to water.

Now with that said, I had closed the thread but re-opening it again.

Considering i had to literally pry my oil pan off the bottom of the block when i pulled my engine for the second time i wouldn't use anything other then toyota fipg or equivalent.

I'd say the MOST important thing is to make sure the oil pan flange is flat and true. Followed by proper torque on the nuts/bolts so you don't squeeze out your gasket. Myself I used Loctite Instant gasket, comes in an aerosol can, pretty nifty.
