you guys crack me up.

FACT: the stock bolts are good to 72 ftlbs
FACT: detonation is the #1 killer of HGs (both metal and composite!)
FACT: you can run as much boost as you like on a stock HG, just keep detonation in check.

I have done my HG job two years ago, and reused the OEM bolts (I know, not the smartest thing..).. now I have a new set of OEM bolts. How can I swap them with the old ones in the car? can I do one at a time?

:withstupi I know theres been some controversy over that idea of swapping headbolts like that, but to me, it seems like it should work. I'm no authority or engine whiz, but I don' think the engine is gonna know the difference.

your wrong ideal... many people have torqued stock bolts to 72 or higher without problems (myself included)

i might be wrong on the week part...but i stand by my stretching comments...

just like posted before when grim posted the info... the plasticity regions are very touchy....

as for what you say DRj...i DO agree that detonation is a huge cause of bhg...but in reality...how many people on here are gonna have a good enough to tune to keep it in check so well that the compositie gasket wont come into play at higher boost levels? :dunno:

id rather just give out info on here that will keep general people safe and not breaking things... thats all...

yeah ill admit i come off as overbearing about some things lol...but i just know how it is...and again...all that work and you wont spend the extra what 10 bucks for arp bolts at least....

i dont know.... just seems easier to me to make comments on the edge of reliability and availability then to make comments that will encourage people to walk a thin line between a nicely running car and a car thats blowing up..... am i wrong in this? cause if i am then i will gladly start calling things like i see them... as you like to do so well adam ;) :D

regarding tuning, id guess that MOST people wont have to even worry about tuning until they upgrade to a larger turbo.

if you are running even 15 pounds on the stock ct with 550s (just to be safe!) you are probably well within the safety range and wont have to worry about detonation.

after installing an OEM gasket with ARPs torqued to 72ftlbs, these people running 15psi of boost should have very little to worry about.

make sure you always run high octane fuel and thats about it.

am i wrong here?

Lagged, you are correct in my opinion.

88SupraTurbo, studs are better, but they are more expensive. Bolts are just fine, I have the bolts and no complaints from me. It should be safe to swap the bolts one by one, but there is still active controversy over the idea, so pick whatever you feel comfy with.
