What does the vin tell you?

Take the VIN to a Toyota dealership and have them tell you exactly what your specific car came with. VIN decoders won't tell you what specifically your car has. Here is a VIN decoder I found. http://www.analogx.com/cgi-bin/cgivin.exe?Mode=Decode
honest - that vin decoder didnt tell me jack squat about my car! lol
and if IIRC the diff has its one little code on the driver door info sheet.
mine was G305/R154 which meant it had the 3.73 LSD rear end with a R154 transmission...

Using the Toyota EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog) along with the info you have posted, here is what I can tell you:
Model: MA70L-BJMVZA
Engine: 7MGTE
Transmission: R154 manual
Steering: PPS (Progressive power steering)
Date of manufacture: September, 1989
Differential: Limited slip. 3.73 final drive.
Destination market: USA
Using the VIN, and some basic knowledge of the car, you can determine exactly what parts are on your car. The two other pieces of info I needed to confirm the exact car was if it was manual or automatic, and built for the US or Canada.

In addition to Jim's post:
USA model, 5-speed, cloth grey interior, 3E5 red, has ABS, power seats, and California emissions package.
That being said, all Turbos have LSD, and since it's an 89+, all of those have PPS as well, they all have 3.73:1 rear ends too.

Only difference i've seen about the california ECU is a sensor for EGR Temp or was that an 89+ thing? :dunno:
No real performance difference at WOT.
Edit: Wiring Harnesses are the Same for Cali and Other US cars. So it must run a little cleaner at cruise. :dunno:

You can contact Toyota or the National Auto Thrft Bureau, they know where the location of the line sheet or production sheets are within your vehicle, when cars finished assembly the order sheets used to determine what pieces were put on the vehicle were hidden within the vehicle for identification in the event the car was stolen, contains all parts on your car with numbers and your cars VIN
All the VIN/firewall badge (its a pre89 thing, 89+s, even early 89s, have the badge in the door sill) doesnt tell me that I want to know is the exact day my car was made. I'm curious!

sorry about the mix up the 7MGTE are about the same just 1 egt sensor is added fo CA, the 7MGE can be in two completely diffrent setups but I never had the 7MGTE I skipped over that one.
1 extra cat is added and of course 1 more O2 +EGT sensor. kind of like OBDII
