What does clutch "wear" smell like?

Serious Question!

Well today, i was at a light and a 5.9 RT dodge pickup with some punk kid revs on me. Being the sunny day it was i decided to launch the 280. I gave the car the clutch slip at about 3500 rpm and went WOT, i got great traction surprizingly, and i was gone! I guess he didn't react fast enough and got pissed because i'd pulled on him off the line and just did some punk bs and sped off. As i was slowing i could smell the faint smell of burning rubber except smoky'er. Is that the smell of burning clutch?

I seriously baby all my cars and this was my only launch in this car. :icon_bigg

Boy it makes me wanna finish my supra.

its a funky smell.. if you have never smelt a burnt clutch and you got a well not a plastic smell but kinda like plastic and foam well its a real funky smell...

This reminds me of the guy in the transam thinking he's doing a smokey burnout when it's actually just his clutch going up in smoke while his wheels were standing still. :stickpoke

I'd say the two are very similar to someone not accustomed to smelling one or the other. They're a bit different, but I'd say they are very close.

alright, go on the steepest hill you can find and give it full throttle in 3rd gear, ull have a pretty good idea of what the smell is then :biglaugh:

Never Over Heated my own brakes. But i know what it smells like.........

Back when I had my old supra, my friend had also got a ~79 Celica. Great car. We were going at like 80ish on a local expressway. When he guns it and the light turns red. Me being in the MK3 was able to stop with no problem, him in his old school started smoking it's a god awful smell. Come to think of it, it was sorta like it but not exactly.

lol bag of assholes... Drive behind a school bus, that'll give you an idea. Their brakes smell the worst, pretty close to a clutch.
Ive overheated my stock brakes driving some twisties..When i stopped there was faint smoke comming out of the wheel wells.

the axle grease out of my 41 dodge is the worst auto smell ive ever smel't.

burnt clutch smell = burnt brakes smell

that smell you smelled was not your clutch, rather the smoking of the punk kid.
