I know most of you are going to say get the LIPP kit but ya know what I am not made of money and I want my car running right now, with something that I feel won't take a crap on me. No my car is not stock its running a Full exhuast from the turbo and I think I blew this hose.Don't worry I am replacing and upgradeing everything lil by lil. I just want to see what you think about it. Also can someone explain to me about intercooler pipes, I heard that theres a reason why the stock pipes are staggered besides cost issues. Heres the link it scroll and click "supra intercooler piping kit" http://www.speed-source.net/

Your explanation is in the first paragraph of that acrticle pretty much.

"The stock piping is usually engineered for cost savings and ease of manufacture, not absolute performance. For this reason, the stock piping usually has more rubber hose than it should, and is packaged into the engine bay as an afterthought. Rubber hose in the intercooler pipe system is not ideal, and will expand under heat and pressure causing a loss of boost pressure and efficiency. Simply turning up the boost will NOT regain these losses! Add a few years of use, and the stock rubber hoses should be replaced."

The efficiency is why I changed mine to hard pipes.

I don't have any input specifically about the intercooler pipes. But I do know that the MR2 crowd seems to have good luck with the speed source products. They make good quality stuff from what I have seen.

@ aaron

it only replaces the pipe going from the turbo to the lower ic piping; its not a full kit by any means if that is what you were thinking.

Taking a second look at that you are right, in my opinion I would replace them all at once. I dont know the affects of just replacing the one pipe section.

Many MANY people have the speed-source pipe, and I've heard nothing but good things about it.

i sold mine due to the fact that i could fit in INSIDE my stock 90 lower pipe... which means its ID was like 1/4 to 1/2 smaller....

its a good upgrade for the pre 89 crowd, but if you have the newer IC, but on a 90+ its not worth it.

Made a world of difference for me. The lower hose was my only boost leak.

Great product and fits perfectly. The included clamps are fine, but you can upgrade to t-bolts from driftmotion for cheap if you don't like worm drive. FWIW the included clamps have lasted 18 months so far and haven't needed to be adjusted once.

Well I have an early 89 model(production of my car was in march of 1989). It looks like a 90 but its an 89 turbo targa 5spd. I think I will be getting this part I have a boost leak and many people said it could be the lower hose. I am running a lil more boost than stock i have a downpipe high flow cat and cat back exhuast its all 2.75in.

it didnt fit my 90 either... the one coupler was held on by like 1/2'', just enough to have the clamp hold it.

Noticed no difference either... but my pipes are in good condition...

and the 90+ "elbow" is a "mandrel bend" basically... its NOT like the pre 89 elbow that is a piece of crap... i'll go snap a pic if you wanna see what my car has to compare.

i had that. fitment wasn't that great but they did ship it very fast. i got it in time to go on a road trip. if it didn't come in time i would have not gone. funny thing is on my way home from that trip is when total my old car.

anyway for the money you would be better of gettting a universal kit and having somebody weld them up. its just hard to call whether or not you should go 2" or 2.5".

My 90 has the cast elbow, and its ID is definitely smaller than the Speed-Source pipe. That said, I do think the speed source pipe diameter is a little small. I vaguely recall it was 1.75" diameter (been a while since I put it on), a little smaller than the stock lower rubber tube. The cast elbow is 1.5 in dia.

I had the cast elbow, made a new one out of Al. The result is a lighter, cheaper, same performance part as that Speed-Source thing.

Running one of my 88 it fits my 20G turbo perfectly and my intercooler. My 88 had that cast elbow piece that everyone is talking about.

I've got one on my 91 turbo and I have no fit issues. I don't what they hell yall are talking about. I had one on my 86.5 also with no issues. Beats the hell out of that two sections of "soft" hoses.

This is a possiblity I notice that you and your 91 Supra are located in Texas. My guess is that its Texas Spec. I have a hunch that California Spec cars are retarded and that the Speed-source lower IC pipe will not fit on our Cali Shit cars. :aigo:
