Do your reasearch. Depends on the person, goals, budget etc.. You are on Supramania, so get used to the site.. and then post buddy. Everything you need to make your decision is all kinds of threads. Use the search, and roam around.

And to anwser your question, i personally enjoy the torque of a 3.0 7mgte.

Good Luck.

i also enjoy the torque of a 7m...any motor when built right will be powerful and reliable .their is a saying i read on this site that stuck with me " when building an engine we all want 3 things fast, cheap, and reliable...unfortunately you can only choose two"

everything i have read on here.. the 7m seams to be the fav for serious minded people... wanting power...and its biger then the 1j.. but if you really want to swap then go 2j... imho... i ferget what i read on here something like the motor itself will hold 800 hp before mods need done.. to block and head.. but just ad big turbo and fuel + managment and 2j is the way to go.. imho..and for the money you can get a 2j for not alot more then 1j

I was thinking going chevy.. but its going to be the 7m or a chevy or 2j one day...

Parts are available for both motors but the 1jz seems to have a better selection. For example for a 7M your gonna be hard pressed to find anything but a brian crower camshaft a camshaft as companies like HKS have discontinued their 7M products. This is not so much because they think the 1jz is a better motor but rather in response to lack of sales, because much of their target market switched to a 1jz or 2jz. Both motors are reliable when taken care of.

P.S. Kamikaze I'm diggin the JDM hood prop. lol

bc doesnt make good cams for the 7m. the 7m doesnt have good cam choices but other than that you can find what ever you want pretty easy if you know wher4e to look. same goes for the 1jz/2jz. its all personal pref. but as money goes you can rebuild the 7m for the cost of a 1j and you will have know idea of how it runs(usually good but).

You can rebuild the 7M properly for a grand or more under what it would cost to buy the JZ engine and rebuild it the right way. 7M is more cost efficient.

The 7M can be just as reliable as a JZ engine, but it depends on how well the owner takes care of the car, and the tune.

I'm not choosing sides, both engines have their pro's and con's

I like my 7m... I have a 1j sitting on a engine stand. If I swap again it will be a 2j.

MY reason for the 2j is that it is the newest of the motors ( tech wise not time) , has a hugh aftermarket base, and was sold in the US so parts are easy to get.

I am goin g to put the 1j in a cressy I think for the hell of it

I love the torque of my 7M but I'm swithing to 2JZ as my 7M is in decline and needs some work. The 2JZ is a great motor, doesn't need a lot of work to make it fast as hell and there is big aftermarket support for it. I don't really have anything bad to say about the 7M though. Money wise, your cheaper building up the 7M properly.

I'm pretty sure 90% of the people here would love to see a 2J in their car, but the whole dollars and cents things gets in the way of that pretty quick usually. There's nothing wrong with going to either the 1J or the 7M, like all people have said, each will have their own advantages/disadvantages, and both will be reliable if you do a proper build on them.

I just finished building a 2JZ-GTE, they are definitely more expensive to build than a 7M-GTE.

Personally, I would build a 7M over a 1JZ, I can't get past the sound of the 1JZ, I think they sound like a motorbike. But that's just my personal opinion, build what you like.
