So after owning my 87 for about half a year.. ive spilled tons of coffee, pop, etc.. all over....... i put the drink in where the square compartment is right under the tems buttons.. and it ALWAYS falls.
its annoying but i have no wheer else to put drinks.. i use drink trays.. but they always tip/fall etc.. i am sure someone has some kind of solution other the never having drinks in the car..
is there some kind of secret cup holder hiding somewhere?? like what was toyota thinking.. not even one decent cup holder??
did later model years have a cup holder? maybe this topic has been touched on before.. but i couldnt find it. :1zhelp:

89+ has cup holders in the center console. there ok ish. i usually either dont buy a drink or buy one that has a cap. if it doesnt have a cap ill usually drink it fast have my pass hold it or put in between my legs, which is hard to shift like that. the coin holder works too just gotta drive and turn real slow.

like you have to keep the lid open when you are using it?

And yea ive also tried the between the legs thing.. use to work when i had an automatic.. not so much now when i shift it falls. the cloin holder is too shallow for a drink.. and its worse when i actually have coins in there.

i was thinking of cutting a hole in the console lid? but that would look super ugly and would probably turn into a mess lol. plus i like to rest my arm

I drive my other car. My last MKIII was an 87 and I put a newer console lid with cup holders built in to carry drinks. One time the lid shut and drove a straw through the bottom of a Styrofoam cup, filling the console with Dr. Pepper. In the 88 that I'm currently driving, I left the cup holders out so I'm not temped to carry fast food in the car.

damn.. seems like a pretty last minute/stupid design for toyota lol "oh shit we forgot cupholders.. lets just throw them into the center console"
i like to have fast food sometimes.. but this is too annoying... and usually in the mornings i like my coffee.. but i dont like cleaning it up or burning myself either.. this is a crappy dd.

i buy a large coke, and i put it inbetween the passenger seat and center console. If i have a passanger. DING DING they are my cup holder lol.

In my old 89 i had the cup holders. I always got a medium so it fit in the holder. Large was just too large. *thats what she said*

What I did is go to the local parts store and buy one of those cupholders that youre supposed to "clip" onto the top of the door panel, except i hung it on the passengers side of the center console near their legs. The little tab is between the radio/shifter bezel and the edge of the console. Works great and can hold 32 oz cups, etc.

Like this, except it holds containers bigger than just cans

Cupholders or not when I get fast food I usually eat it in the parking lot. Its alot safer than eating while driving as well as reducing chances of a mess.

sometimes i like to take it home lol.. so its gotta survive the journey from the restaurant - home. streets here are real bad too.

hmm maybe i can rig something up with a clip on type cup holder... i just gotta look around for the right one.

Never allowed anything except unopened, sealed containers or water. Ended up with no mess in 5 years... weird. ;)

I never get drinks from the drive through, I go into stores and buy normal soda bottles so I don't have this issue. ;)

since i am usually driving solo in the supra i use one of the dual cup holders you can get at the auto parts store that slips in between the passenger seat and the center console. Its not the best looking, but it works.
